Luciera has a bit of a devil-may-care attitude underneath all the anxiety and nervousness and fear of disappointing the Icewarden, which is strange for a Gaoler since they are usually very no-nonsense. She thinks of dumb jokes at the worst times and can think of a good comeback at the drop of a hat. At first she was nervous to joke around with Sursus, but then they grew a bit closer and she cracked one, and his little smile pushed her on to make more bad jokes before they became friends, and Luciera became comfortable enough to say even the worst jokes around Sursus without worrying she'll disappoint her manager.

Sursus is a Keeper and Luciera is a Seeker, and Sursus was unofficially transferred to the Seeker position, but they both were sent by the Icewarden to watch over Malis and the clan because there were signs of the clan coming into contact with strange, otherworldly, and powerful beings. The Icewarden was wary that these beings would lead to the Shade coming back and trying to attack Sornieth again.

Luciera hadn’t gone out to Sornieth on two assignments before getting assigned to assist Sursus in watching over the clan. She was very nervous, because Sursus, being an older Keeper, was well respected, especially among the very young group of Seekers that Luciera associated with.
Sursus was reluctant to go out into Sornieth to watch over the clan because he was content with his job as Keeper, and he didn’t appreciate being stuck with the young Luciera. She was relatively new to her job at the time, plus Sursus now had seniority over her, so he was responsible for her and her mistakes.
She tried not to get too in his way at first, but they had to talk at some point, and Luciera eventually got comfortable enough to crack a little joke. Sursus couldn’t help but smile, and Luciera was emboldened to try more jokes later. Eventually, Sursus cracked a joke back, and the two started trading stupid, cheesy jokes and puns back and forth non-stop. The constant threat of danger and having to watch each other’s backs also helped them learn to trust each other.
In their time together going across Sornieth, watching over the clan, and finally actually joining the clan, they bonded and grew to be close friends. They enjoy each other’s company and banter.

They joined the clan after watching over them for a while before they were seen skulking around. When approached, they tried to act like they didn’t know why they were being questioned, not only for their stalker-like habits, but for being a breed no one has ever seen before. However, when the dragon questioning them, who happened to be Brutus, told them they could just join the clan if they wanted to, the two Gaolers’ ears perked up and they just sort of… joined the clan.
When Malis got back from his recent trip with the Wolves and saw the two Gaolers, he immediately got suspicious and hostile, but Sursus recognized him and said “We mean no harm… We were sent to protect the clan…” and Malis seemed to calm down a bit, but never fully dropped his guard around the two until the Brightshine Jubilee.
During the festival, much to literally everyone’s horror, the three managed to get drunk and bond over jumping into water and seeing how long it took for them all to freeze with Malis right there. And then they bonded more when they all had to stay in the medical ward of the lair. There were a lot of stupid jokes traded between the Gaolers, with Sursus and Luciera doing their weird haunting, echoey laughs, and Malis doing his weird, creepy, strangled wheeze of a laugh to the point where he fell out of bed and couldn’t breathe anymore. They were good friends after that.
