Many dragons in Clan Radix have the appearance of trees or other plants, but Alvena and her partner, Elric, seem to be something more. Their skin is rough bark, their wings are leaves, and it's commonly whispered among hatchlings that their blood is sap - though no one has confirmed this. Their explanation is that they are spirits of the forest - faeries - given physical form to live among the dragons and to speak for the faeries and other spirits of the forest. Alvena came first, found by Naoki, but she felt lonely and among dragonkind and asked for another of her kin to join her in this realm.

Many of the dragons, after spending time with the pair, have come to believe their story. They regularly wake to find offerings placed outside their lair, for the Good Folk. Sometimes they consume or take these offerings for themselves, but usually they carry them to a faerie mound and leave them for their kin to collect.

Alvena can be vicious, as well as mischevious, and most dragons find her unnerving.
