Torn apart at the fact that coming out of hibernation only 1 of their lineage remained was heartbreaking for Lightleaf and after visiting yei and learning the heartbreaking news that she had no blood either almost broke her completely. She slipped into a deep state of sorrow, not moving, speaking and barely even breathing. The heartbroken Fae didn't even move when her loving mate Lightsun fed her, making sure she stayed alive and healthy even though he was grieving as well. After a few weeks he was able to draw her out of this state and now she was waking and moving though she still slept frequently and still only woke to eat and preen. Lightleaf slowly recovered from her loss, but she still felt numb and couldn’t bear to look at herself in any reflective surface as it reminded her all too much of her lost kin. Maybe if she had been in a more feeling state she would have noticed the pain and magic of transformation shooting through her. Maybe she would have noticed the feathery feel of her hide and how the ground seemed farther below her as she walked but because she was in this numb state she noticed nothing not until one morning when she woke up and suddenly could feel her mate’s worry beside her. The sharp emotion hit her like a spear and suddenly she noticed the changes that had overtaken her body and her mind. She had changed, she wasn’t sure how but she felt it now that she had been struck out of her numbness she felt the difference. She suddenly became very lightheaded. Lightsun must have seen she was about to fall because he rushed over and let her lean on his shoulder. The worry became even sharper as he touched her and she groaned and tried to back away from him but he held on and gave out a high pitched screech that sounded like a bird call. But not like one of the calm gentle ones that he sang to her most of the time. This was the sound of a hawk coming in for the kill, or an eagle swooping down upon an helpless creature on the ground. Then suddenly a surge of emotion rushed through the door along with a purple fae. Her last thought before she fainted onto the rug was that the fae in front of her somehow looked familiar.

Lightleaf woke to faint voices in the distance and the rustle of leaves in the trees. She was outside. She sat up and stretched her achy muscles. The bombardment from before had ceased and she actually felt normal for the first time since she and Lightsun had come out of hibernation. Had that actually been a few months ago? It had felt so fast in her grief. She got all the way up and looked around. Not seeing anyone in view she walked to where she thought the voices were coming from she walked through a patch of thicker trees and emerged in front of her and Lightsun’s small home l. Sitting on the steps to the door sat her beloved mate Lightsun and her beautiful granddaughter yei. Lightleaf clumsily ran toward them and realizing what was happening they got up and ran toward her as well. Lightsun reached her first and nuzzled her neck and Lightleaf nuzzled him back then he backed away from her and motioned to yei to come forward. Yei was full-grown but she had the hesitance of a Hatchling as she slowly moved forward toward her grandmother Lightleaf walked forward and nuzzled her granddaughter at their touch Lightleaf could feel Yei's relief and happiness at the acceptance Lightleaf was showing her. It made lightleaf feel terrible for how she had treated her granddaughter but she couldn't go back and fix it, only move forward.
After the tears were shed and the apologies, Given lightleaf finally asked the question that had been bugging her since she had come out of her daze.
"What did you two do to me?"
Her family looked at each other and then Yei's crests lifted into a happy expression. "Let us show you."
They led her to the large stream that ran by not too far from the house and when they got close enough that lightleaf got a glimpse of her reflection she gasped. Her scaly round head and large eyes and elongated and grown sharp angles and thick, long feathers ran along where her expressive crests used to be and a large gem was stuck into the middle of her forehead along with two long antennae.
She had turned into a skydancer! She turned her now sleek head side to side admiring her reflection in the slowly moving water. She was beautiful.
"Thank you both, thank you, thank you."

After this Lightleaf was emotionally healed and was ready to get on with what was left of her life. Soon she found herself once again incubating her and lightsun's eggs. A nest of three. It brought so much joy into her heart to be once again nurturing new life that she spent nearly every waking moment with the eggs with was of course usual but in the past she had taken turns with lightsun when tending their nests but lightsun didn't mind he simply sat by her all the while once in a while leaving to forage and bring food back to his mate. Finally the hatch day came, and the couple couldn't have been more excited but they waited and waited and nothing happened. Then late that night lightleaf felt something brush against her wing in the next she started awake and looked down, the egg beside her was rocking she nudged her mate who slowly came awake and they watched together as the eg rocked and rocked back and forth, back and forth the egg went when suddenly it rolled all the way over and split straight open down the middle. It was a small male skydancer. A frail thing but alive and breathing. The new parents tucked him and his unhatched siblings between them and went back to sleep to wait for morning.

But with morning came only sorrow. When they woke the couple saw that the male who had hatched in the middle of the night lay limp between them, and one of the eggs had partially hatched to let them see the crumpled body of a small male fae. Neither of the hatchlings breathed. The couple cried and buried their departed young under a tree outside their home. The only thing that kept lightleaf from falling apart again was her and her mates' third egg. She needed to be there for the hatchling inside. And she would see that it hatched and lived. No matter what.
Neither slept that night or the night after they just snuggled the last egg between them, their last child. They hoped and prayed to the Gladekeeper and even the Lightweaver that it lived. They had almost lost all hope when at the end of the third night with the early light of dawn came the sound of an egg cracking open and the sound of a hungry hatchling crying for food. Lightleaf and lightsun had had their backs turned to the nest not able to look and the egg that was probably dead; but at the sound of the cracking they both whipped around.
Before them sat a perfectly healthy young male skydancer hatchling. It was larger than the other had been most likely because of his extended time in the egg but he was fully formed and much more colorful than his brothers had been. The two new parents went swiftly to their hatchling and immediately fed the hatchling until he slept. They named him Lawen . Then they snuggled next to him in the nest and now that their job was done the tired couple fell asleep.
