Biography
A strange flash of femininity, feathers, and bright colors hurried Cyrian, the young male Skydancer, inside. She was a beautiful middle-aged Coatl, not the typical Ridgeback or Spiral that greeted newcomers, yet he felt quite safe with her, despite his rushed introduction to the clan. He hadn’t yet met all the other dragons, though he noticed many of them lounging on the beach and in the tide as he was swept into a craggy tidepool cave. The sun was setting quickly, and there was an urgency in her voice.
His guide spoke in a humming, vibrational whistle sort of tone. “Here, here, we have a home for you here. You will light the new lanterns when others draw near!”
Not knowing quite how to respond, he echoed her. “Here, here? I’m lighting lanterns here?”
A childish giggle bubbled up from within his chest that he had trouble containing.
She looked at him sternly. “There, there, you learned the way of it there. We need help for when others come from lands not as fair.“
The young boy’s red eyes flickered as he looked down, feeling slightly embarrassed. Clearly this was a serious matter, and he shouldn’t be poking fun at the way the strange Coatl was speaking to him. “I’m sorry. I only learned the basics from my mother and sister, I’m.. still pretty young, and I was pushed out of the nest pretty early, a-hah..!”
She firmly clapped her hand claw against his back, pushing him toward glowing shards of sea glass piled towards the back of the cave. “Need, need, we need you to help. Start charging the crystals, you cute little whelp!”
“I—I’m not sure I know how, uh, Dil..ak..ukan? Was your name?” He picked up a fragment of dimly lit glass. Without thinking much, he blew a puff of breath at it to clear it of sand, and... it lit up, and brightly, too. “I don’t.. oh! Wow!”
The Coatl smiled and whistled brightly, a tune that was quite familiar, almost eerily so. This song! Some distant lamplighters used to sing it to the child when he was even smaller. He shyly grinned back at Dilakukan, and gave a nod. “So you knew them, somehow. Your whistling confuses me a little... but okay. I’ll try to get these going as fast as I can!”
