The wails and high-pitched squeals of squabbling youngsters echo within the caverns. Yuka and his sister Everglade have been bickering since their hatchdays; whether over food, personal space, or shimmering trinkets, there's always some excuse for them to start a fight.
Adult dragons within the refuge caves find the antics either highly amusing or incredibly annoying; but, they know the two youngsters come from a tragic past. Separated from their parents in an event the two refuse to speak of, they have come to have only each other as family. Although it may not seem like it at times, the two rely on and prop each other up in times of hardship. Thusly, many drakes spoil the two rotten, taking on caregiver roles for brief times of interaction with the two terrors.
Yuka is the more competitive of the two, much to Everglade's annoyance. He was the first to hatch, by approximately 11 seconds, first to catch prey (a beetle he stole from his sister), and the first to cast a spell. Yuka, of course, conveniently leaves out his sister's accomplishments, including how she nearly always wins their psuedo-battles. Still, he fiercely protects her under any circumstance, and the two have a combined skill in battle that belies their young age.
