The trio of hatchlings jostled each other, pushing and shoving and shushing as they stumbled closer to the dragon. They stared on, wide eyed, till one whispered "I heard that they are the ghost of a giant praying mantis." All three erupted into giggles, at which Ivy straightened up a little. They shushed each other, and hunkered down low. When the masked spirit eased, the children straightened up again to get a look at her. "That doesn't even make sense. A ghost bug? I heard a witch buried her lucky wind chimes, after they broke from a strong storm. And that's how they was born, popping out of the ground like a bamboo shoot!" The three hatchlings broke out into frantic breathy laughter, trying to keep quiet. Ivy turned and looked over their shoulder, but again they ducked down. When the skydancer returned to their business, the three fledglings peaked at them slowly, moving the bush they were hiding behind to get an even braver look. "I heard that a skydancer lost her entire clutch of eggs, and in her grief she pulled out all of her own feathers. They were whisked away by a strong breeze, and those feathers and wind fused and became a spirit. They became Ivy." The third hatchling's story didn't stir up laughter. Just a quiet wave of quiet disbelief. "That's so sad." One of the hatchlings chirped. "Yeah, I don't like that one." The other hatchling remarked, glancing over at the masked drake. All three stiffened in silence. Ivy was gone. "I heard a strong breeze blew an egg out of nest, way up high." A muffled voice said from behind them. They turned and stared at Ivy, scrambling for a moment, but Ivy spoke on. "The egg fell through the sky, and the windsinger sent a whirlwind to catch it. It became the wind's egg, and the dragon inside grew up to be a wind spirit of sorts." All three hatchlings screamed, and ran as fast as their stubby legs could carry them, all the way home. Ivy chuckled, and the bamboo adorning their body jumbled together to make a pleasing noise. They sighed reaching a claw up under the mask to stroke a featherless head, wishing they had hatchlings of their own.
