Gyokuto
Scribe of Mystery and Secrets

As dusk falls, the winds in the valley calm. The Scribe’s ancient windchimes, passed down from Scribe to Scribe, slowly still in the coming twilight. Except for one. The sound of this chime… Is the definition of subtle. It seems to tell of darkness and shadows, of secrets and lies, of mischief and fear. Unlike the others, it makes less of an easily identifiable sound, and more of a susurration. The sound sends chills down your spine, but you are as drawn to it as any of the other chimes. This feeling pulls you up a small path on the cliff side to a shadowed grove of bamboo, almost set into the cliff itself. You step into the alcove and are struck by the darkness. You gasp in shock, as you realize it is much darker inside than it looked from the outside. “Shade’s teeth, you can’t see, can you?” you hear a few muttered curses, and a small dim light is lit. You let your eyes adjust, and see not only the shadowy grove, but its occupant. The Mirror gazes at you levelly. As your eyes adjust more, you see that he is shades of blue and shadow, with bright moons on his wings. And that he seems to have lost interest in you. His focus is on his chime and its susurrations. The wind in here blows softly and secretly, not from the valley but from numerous holes in the rock. The Mirror notices you are still present. As he is taking notes, he speaks. “I hope you don’t mind the lack of light, my visitors prefer it dark.” Noticing your confusion at his statement, he sighs. “I don’t mean you,” he explains, “I mean my winds.” He looks at his chime and listens intently, writing notes on whatever he is gleaning from it. “Winds are mutable. They… take on the characteristics of what they carry. My winds,” he looks at you sharply. “My winds bring me the mysteries of Sornieth.” He grins, surprisingly quite charmingly. “I am the Scribe of Mystery and Secrets. My name is Gyokuto, and there is nothing I don’t know.”
