Despite a cold, intimidating aura, Nitrogen has a sharp temper and brutish nature reminiscent of his father, Uranium. Tension follows him wherever he goes, and he attracts bad rumours like a copper pole invites sparks in a lightning storm. Nitrogen's actual heritage is not discussed openly, and his mother, CottonCandy, keeps a keen eye on him at all times. He is firmly under the talons of two of the clan's strongest dragons, and for that reason, he never openly complains.

Much like his father, Nitrogen is counted as an important part of the clan's organized defenses. Though is demeanor may be brash, his tactical genius is nearly without flaw. To denote his status, Nitrogen is dressed in armour so that he may remain vigilant for danger at all time. He has also picked up other accoutrements pertaining to his Lightning flight alignment, such as a powerful artifact known as "Voltaic Stormclaws". Along with this, he has the standard sash, emblem, and halo to denote what element of magic he uses.

Despite his relation to Uranium, Nitrogen's innate magic seems to draw more from the element that dominates the region he was hatched, in the Carrion Canyon. However, shadows and shapes on his wings hint at his mother's shadowy heritage, and on dark nights you wouldn't have know Nitrogen had flown over were it not for the bright orange glow of his underbelly and spines.

On his most temperamental days, Nitrogen's scales and spines arc with visible electricity. When he sulks, it sometimes seems as though his body were simply a grounded thunderstorm, the cloudlike shapes on his wings storming darkly and random bolts grounding themselves into the dirt around him.
