Even now, having been folded into the new ranks of combatants, you aren't sure you could actually do anything about her. You might win a fight, but you'd never win a war. Not while she surrounds herself with the teeming masses, drawn to her generosity. A generosity funded by the work of dragons such as yourself.

A generosity that would have been impossible without you, without your chemistry, without the fine, thin drink that left Kyanite, Neon and Malachite so impressionable to your will, or the overdose that broke Calcium's mind into dust.

Not even your own sire seems willing to acknowledge your contribution, and with the endless marching towards the western horizon, you cannot bring yourself to maintain your library proper. Iodine has stolen it from you, just as Eos stole your crown.

But, while a kindly and generous queen she may be, you are cleverer than her. You'll find your way.

You have known since well before you became the clan's archivist that it was a blatant lie. But you enjoy the rank it gives you, and you let the untruth continue to spread.

Once upon a time, in generations that even you barely remember, you were considered the most beautiful dragon in the entire clan. In the times since then, your pitiful level of aesthetic has been overthrow a dozen times. Beautiful things aren't very useful at all. You have spent your many lifetimes gathering information, hoarding it in your library, and offering it to those who think to ask. So few of them do.

Your skin is mottled now with markings and dyes and alterations born of this endless research. You are a striking specimen, if not truly beautiful.

It doesn't matter, you tell yourself. You envy young Fire Agate, whomay hold the title of best beloved for a while yet.
