______ ”By the Stormcatcher, no!” Mapleshade cries out as he helplessly watches the small silver amulet slip from his grasp. Jumping forward to catch the falling trinket, the Coatl can only look on in horror as the amulet bangs into a rock and changes direction - straight into a narrow crevice gouged into the earth. “NO!” The Coatl shrieks before slumping to the ground dejectedly. Helplessly scratching at the rocky soil around the crevice, the crestfallen dragon halts his earth-digging endeavor upon hearing a voice calling out to him.
-ire again, did it?” A gold-scaled Spiral calls out, poking his head into Mapleshade’s den with a worried look.
Still laying on the floor, the Coatl swivels his head around to look at his clanmate. Blinking sheepishly, Mapleshade asks “sorry Sunstream, but could you repeat that? I was a bit, erm... preoccupied.”
“Oh. Well, everyone kinda figured that! Me and a few others heard your shrieking all the way from the food piles. Anyways, I just came up here to see if you were alright; those cursed amulets didn’t set you on fire again, did they?” Sunstream responds, secretly wondering why Mapleshade won’t stop staring at the ground.
“Well thank you for your concern, but I didn’t get burned. In fact, something much more awful has happened!” Mapleshade cries, grasping onto the other dragons arm.
“What?! What happened? Are you hurt anywhere?” The spiral exclaims in shock, gently grabbing his best friend for support and looking him over for any injuries.
“Oh no, I’m not injured. One of my amulets is! It fell into that crevice! Who knows if it’s cracked, or worse, if I’ll ever be able to dig it out! You know some crevices can extend downwards for miles, right?” Mapleshade prattles on, not even realizing that he was shaking the poor Spiral that was still in his grip.
“How will I ever get it back? My claws aren’t strong enough to rip through stone! Hey, you’re really smart Sunstream, do you have any ideas? .... Sunstream?” Looking at his disoriented best friend who was practically struggling to stay on his paws, Mapleshade yelps in shock before quickly releasing the Spiral’s arm. Apologizing profusely to his friend, who was now lying collapsed on the floor (and didn’t seem inclined to be getting back up anytime soon), the Coatl worriedly paces across the floor.
“I-I’m fine, don’t worry. No harm done, though could you please stop pacing? It’s not really helping with my dizziness.”
“Oh, sorry.” Mapleshade murmurs, settling down next to Sunstream.
Shaking his head, the disoriented dragon glances at his friend. “As for what you were saying earlier, I do believe I have an idea. Rosegold is rather experienced in spatial magic, she could probably just teleport the amulet back up here. You’re probably going to have to bribe her though, she doesn’t seem to like you too much.”
“Euuuckh..... there’s no other dragon that can help us?” Mapleshade groans. “I really don’t need the two hour lecture that will almost certainly come along with her help.
“No other options I’m afraid, she’s the only dragon in camp that specializes in that type of magic.” Letting out a lighthearted chuckle at his friend, who had just slammed his head against the floor in exasperation, Goldenstream flashes a bright smile to the internally dead Coatl. “If it helps I could sit through the lecture with you, okay?”

A Coatl who is rather small for his age and breed, Mapleshade is a rather eccentric individual with a borderline obsession of the occult. He first encountered the dragons of the Gorge while on a journey through the Plaguelands in search of more cursed relics, and decided to join up with them so he could have a safe place to store his treasures. Having absolutely no interest in trinkets that are not cursed or magical in nature, Mapleshade just gives all of the normal jewelry and relics he comes across to the clan’s treasury as thanks for taking him in.

~~~~~ Dragon Trivia ~~~~~

~Mapleshade is rather socially inept. That combined with his eccentric nature makes it really difficult for him to interact with some of the clans more serious, no-nonsense dragons.

~That being said, he gets along really well with the more laid-back, fun-loving, good-natured, and mischievous dragons.

~ He’s around cursed objects so much that he’s gained a bit of a resistance to the weaker ones. It came as quite the shock for some dragons to see him casually wearing haunted apparel around the camp!

~ He has a crush on his best friend, Sunstream. It probably developed during the many times Sunstream spent patching him up, courtesy of the unexpectedly powerful relics he encounters.

~ He’s very playful around dragons he’s close with.

~ Really enjoys spicy foods. And I mean REALLY spicy. Likes sour candies as well.

~ Likes fish. Not to eat, he just enjoys watching them swim.
