Born with gembond, Shade's appearance was drastically transformed after joining the clan, in an incident he will discuss with no one. Even Shiver can make no answer for it. What is known is this: when Shade joined the clan, he became smitten with Shiver and brought her a small gift: her necklace. Her intended mate, a silver-winged Skydancer whose name no one seems able to recall, was furious, and ignoring the laws of the clan, issued Shade a challenge. The following morning, neither could be found within the clan's boundaries; by the end of the week, both had been given up for lost, although Shiver continued to fly in search patterns until she was unable to lift her wings, on the 10th day.

On the morning of the 11th day, Shade reappeared, transformed. The silver-winged Skydancer has not been seen since, but is now known to reside with Windsinger.

Many months later, Shiver, too, disappeared. Her whereabouts are unknown. Shade has been silent ever since.
