______ Worms are on Strings for a reason. In the time when unfettered worms ran rampant on the surface, there was no place for benevolence or kindness. No meaning to Life; all the gods had been ripped apart in the strength of worm jaws. There was no one left to worship. Hope and the surface were dead, so all Life evolved to underground lifestyles. The worms had proven themselves invincible, and so they lived freely, turning on themselves when no gods were left to eat.

______ When contained, mouths wrapped in String, chained to the surface and unable to move, they could do no more than hurt a fly. But the worms were not the only threat to Life on the surface in the epoch of their freedom. In their fights against gods, the gods had done irreparable damage to the surface. Barren land, permanight, dry lakes and rivers, fires and landslides caused with the intention of destroying the inde-structible or starving them out. But their efforts were futile; worms are stronger than gods. There were no gods left to pray to that the worms stayed their fury. No one was left to help when a worm became angry enough to escape their bonds.
