THE CAVE & THE CLAN

Brahm originated in an Earth clan, an offshoot of a larger clan and completely underground. He grew up hearing the heavy footsteps of Snappers and Imperials overhead, almost completely drowning out whatever conversations went on in his small sector. Though the original clan was aware of this second, smaller clan running underneath it, they didn't have the best opinion on them. Brahm's clan was seen as a sort of parasite. Unobtrusive enough to stay around, but something that caused a sneer on the face of any dragon who lived in the clan proper. They were a nuisance, only allowed because their fae bodies didn't require much food to stay alive so they didn't need to steal as much.

They lived in the small sliver between what was above and what was below, Brahm's superior clan had placed themselves above a vast cavern. There was a constant balancing act for them, trying to dig enough to have rooms and dens and hoards but not low enough to break that thin crust. The creation of Brahm's clan only complicated things further, thinning the gap between above and below even further. A controversy that was only barely assuaged by Brahm's family's ability to firm up the line with magically cured tree sap and various enchanted rocks. One of Brahm's many sisters had the ability to sing through even the thickest of rocks, singing whatever laid below to a constant sleep. They earned their keep, their parasitism.

But there was only so much poking that a bear could take before something happened. The crust in between the parasite clan and the original one had grown too thin and eventually a fissure formed. Brahm's sister decided that since she already had experience with calming down the beasts, that she would go down into the fissure to stop them from coming up any further. The last thing that Brahm could concretely recall about his sister was the way her fins stood proud and up, completely unafraid. That would be the last time Brahm saw his sister, and one of the last nights that he would spend in that clan. His sister would never return and his family would rage against the clan until they were eventually driven out.

____When inevitably chased out of the clan after his sister's disappearance, Brahm fled the entire domain of the Earthshaker. There were things that he had left behind, and things that he hadn't had the chance to take care of, but in his opinion that was fine. He would manage everything from afar, it wasn't like there were things that only he could do. Not like his sister, not like the rest of his family. His disappearance was merely a single drop in the bucket compared to what clan was about to go through, enough that no one ever came looking for him.

____Brahm would explore around the world of Sornieth for a few years before finally stumbling onto the Manor. While he hadn't made many friends around the other Domains, he didn't make any specific enemies. Most people didn't know anything about the beast that lay underneath the ground at his old Manor, but they didn't need to in order to see that something was deeply wrong with him. A strange tilt to his head, wings that seemed just a little too big for his body. But neither of those were odd in La Dame Blanche.

____La Dame Blanche Manor was the best place for Brahm to have ended up, no one there minded all the things that were in Brahm's past. The fact that there was something left behind that his family had a track record of keeping calm was nothing more than an interesting story for him to mention later. Brahm enjoyed his role in the Library, all of the tomes and information that had been collected over so very long. And of course, his specific experience with the Earthshaker's Domain meant that when a new Dig came about, Brahm was on the list to go.

____Brahm was the smallest dragon there, compared to two Guardian women who seemed more than happy to carry him along in their bags. The trip was more than an annoyance, but it resulted in the unearthing of an entire new breed of dragons. Brahm had felt all the air leave his lungs seeing the Obelisks break out of their stone eggs in a show of godly might that hadn't been blatantly shown since the eyes of hatchlings began changing. It almost reminded him of what he had left behind.
