Biography
Frey was born in the cold lands of the Icewarden, true home of Tundras, where their thick coats actually make sense. Very early on in life, he discovered a passion for gardening and horticulture. Equally early on in life, he discovered that the Southern Icefield is an absolutely dreadful place to grow plants.
So he decided to relocate.
The two nearest places to the area of the Icefield where he began are the Windswept Plateau and the Ashfall Waste. The Windswept Plateau, while not perhaps ideal for cultivation because of all the, well, wind, is nevertheless definitely the better place for greenery.
So of course he came to the Ashfall Waste instead, because as much as he's a very gentle, amiable fellow, he has a tendency to make slightly illogical decisions.
Irritatingly to some, they do tend to work out for him, though. He came across this clan pretty quickly and they welcomed him in as easily as they welcome everyone else, and he set about prettifying the general area.
And as much as he's working against heat and dry air and not a bit of toxicity in the soil from all the metalwork, he's actually succeeding. He has a knowledgable colleague in Cadfael, and a willing helper and surprise mate in Ceres- he hadn't expected her to like him like that, but she did, and he was quite happy to go along with it.
The disappearance of two-thirds of their first clutch distressed him as much as it distressed Ceres, and he looked as hard as anyone, but Ceres' subsequent treatment of their remaining son worries him deeply. He is trying his hardest to get her to change her attitude, but it's causing significant tension.
