Hidden somewhere in the Ashfall Waste there is an unnamed clan. They are not great leaders of armies nor legendary smiths, but an unlikely group of dragons with many skills, from many walks of life. Their one similarity is that they are all brought together for their wit and cleverness, ones who can think a plan through and attack from many different angles, to protect their homeland from within the shadows. The location of their lair is a well-kept secret. Only the members of the clan know exactly where it is and how to enter it. It is Yaasai's job to protect that secret, and ensure that anyone who stumbles upon the location of their lair does not, by whatever means necessary, leave and tell others of it.

The grey and blue ridgeback is an imposing sight, her face hooded and masked to look uncomfortably like a skull. She patrols the borders of the clan's lair and guards the hidden doors that give entry. It's her self appointed task, and one that she has never been seen to abandon. She rarely speaks, and she's almost never seen by the clan unless they're coming or going from the lair. Then she is always there, no matter which door they leave by or how quietly, examining the faces of all who wish to gain entry, and deciding whether or not to allow them in. Her ability to sense deception is uncanny. Nothing and no one who means the clan harm or doesn't belong there passes through.

Yaasai once held a position of honor, in another flight far away, their shining golden warrior. Once she went clad in armor the color of the sun. Once she spoke, and laughed, and fought alongside others of her clan. Once she thought herself strong enough to overcome any enemy, and laughed at caution. Once, she made the mistake of taking on a Shade-possessed enemy of greater power than any others in the clan could have faced. The Shade, sensing an opportunity, seeing something of itself within her, leaped from its dying host to the living victor, and took her over. When she came to herself, when she saw the unspeakable slaughter she had wrought, she shed her golden armor and left, never to return.

From any dragon that would come in, Yaasai demands a token. It doesn't matter what it is, so long as it's something that belongs to the dragon in question. Most of the dragons in the lair take to carrying a small bag of coins, or stones, or whatever trinkets they find easiest to collect, to buy their passage in and out. Some, unprepared or forgetful, have irritably been forced to give up weapons, trinkets, or apparel. Some of them resent this, calling her greedy, although she never seems to use what she's given. In fact, all she does with his offering token is examine it closely, and then tuck it away somewhere on her person. Something about it seems to pick up the identity of the dragon who carries it and reveal it to her. More than once she's caught imposters, using magic to disguise themselves, attempting to sneak in, and left the bodies lying far from her clan's territory as a warning.
