Ishi grew up the prince of a large clan on the outskirts of the Wyrmwound. His clan was primarily religious, focusing on more 'overlooked' aspects of the Plaguebringer. They worshiped her inevitability, the way that all life would eventually succumb to decay, and regarded death as just another step in her divine process. This put them at odds with a lot of the clans around them, but drew enough ostracised devotees that they grew quite powerful. But over time, their clan began to weaken, the Serthis hordes that roamed the Scarred Wasteland picking off more and more of their frailer members. Ishi knew that they had to unite with the clans around them to survive. He offered himself to his parents, knowing that mating a prince of one clan with some dragon from another would often forge an inseparable bond. Understanding the situation, they picked him a bride from one of the vicious surrounding clans, hoping for an alliance strong enough to protect them. With the blessing of the Plaguebringer, Ishi met Iwa on the ridge of the Wyrmwound. They were granted a few months to get to know each other, away from their own clans. At first he couldn't understand his new mate at all: she was sharp-tongued, vain, and liked to infect things just for the fun of watching them writhe. He busied himself with his painting, a hobby he'd picked up as a hatchling, and kept his distance. But over time, he began to see a new side of her. He saw that spreading disease was a form of prayer to her, a sacrifice to the goddess; and the first time he snapped back at one of her taunts, the way her face lit up made him feel warm in a way he didn't recognise. In short, the two fell in love. The longer they spent together, the more new aspects he saw of her, and of the Plaguebringer herself. Happily wound in each other's arms, they made plans to unite their two clans, and let their families and friends understand each other as they had. They came home after their honeymoon, full of bright ideas for the future... and were immediately rejected. Their two clans were less interested in unity, and more in a profitable alliance. The more the new couple pushed the idea, the more their clans pushed them away, until finally, they were exiled. Ishi did some research and found them a comfortable lair on the Starfall Isles, where they decided to live in each other's company, and in worship of the Plaguebringer.
