Lore Hatched with her father's delicate wing membranes, Mothwing considered her a lucky hatchling and doted on her from the moment he saw her. He took her insect-catching with him as soon as she had mastered flying on her own, and she was good at it, but she said she wanted to learn to catch fish for her mother, too. Mothwing asked his brother Chang'An, who often went fishing for the clan, if he would show her the ropes, and he agreed. The Guardian took her to a river in the Starwood Strand, where she met and bonded with her familiar, Nautilus the Everglade Lasher. Now, he catches fish for her while she digs for mussels and clams in the sand. Apart from her work, Mantis's other chief pursuit is understanding the thoughts and feelings of the non-Fae dragons in her clan. She pursues this through the study of applied magic, as well as by talking to Rarity about her breed's special ability to sense feelings, moods, and intentions. The two of them share the 'kindred spirit' psychic phenomenon observed in many members of Clan Adeptica, and initially bonded over that. Mantis has learned a great deal from Rarity about the emotional and interpersonal dynamics of the clan, and Rarity treats her as a sort of protege. Mantis also relays messages back and forth between the clan's Fae members and Mikan, their chief social-event planner, about the special touches the Fae would like for their gatherings and celebrations.
