Scion
Mother of Monsters
______________________________________________________________________

Descendant of a house long dead and gone; given no name of her own, she is Scion.

Scion is the adoptive mother of a small clutch of orphaned Leviathan. She has a deep bond with them and they follow her command as obedient children. The three eggs that she found had been abandoned by their parents. At first, the infamous sea witch had considered devouring them after she took them back to her lair under the icy waves. When they hatched unexpectedly, she could not bear to lay a maleficent claw on their heads. None the wiser of the witch's original intentions, the children took to her as their mother and she raised them as her own.

When they were grown and large enough to fend for themselves, Scion worried that they might wish to leave her for the open sea. To the contrary, the three leviathan had become fiercely territorial of their new home and guarded the under sea lair of the witch from prying eyes and dangerous predators. None could touch her as she went about her business and she kept to herself at the bottom of the ocean without any notion of time. Only the continual growth of her children marked the years that passed.

There came a time that Scion was approached by a foolish boy from the mountains. He knew of her from ancient tomes; a legend that spoke of a Sea Witch who had once aided those loyal to the Ice Warden against the Fire Drakes of the Flame Forger. The boy, a half-breed called Lyvis, had slipped passed her children into her lair and confronted her with confidence she believed to be born of ignorance. He spoke to her in an ancient tongue that had been long dead, requesting an audience with her. Amused by the boy's effort to communicate, she humored him.

What he asked of her and her kin was bold, and at first she did not accept. Why should she endanger the lives of her children for the cause of a war that had been won centuries ago? Little did the surface dwelling brat know, she was not the witch depicted in his book of fables and myths that he believed she was. That act had been fulfilled by her very own mother, now long dead because of her own willingness to come to the aid of allies. She has lost her family because of the things that happened on the surface.

Lyvis presented the old witch with the book he had found, and quietly apologized for bothering her. Scion allowed Lyvis, the fool, to leave her lair unscathed while she seethed at the bitter taste his arrogance left in her mouth. While her gaze lingered on the image of her mother valiantly standing between a raging inferno and their home of water and ice.

Months later, Scion rose to the surface for the first time in over a century with her children at her side. She called for an audience with the boy who had disturbed her from her reclusive solace. Bewildered by her aggressive tone, but with little power to hold the witch back, IceFallen guards called for Lyvis and another meeting was adjourned. This time, Scion made the same request of Lyvis that he had made of her. She demanded that his family protect hers as they once had in exchange for their loyalty in a time of need.

That evening, Scion was given the word of every living member of IceFallen by the command of their leader, Lyvis, as well as a place among them as friend and ally. A pact was made before Scion and her children returned to their home below where they would wait to be called should IceFallen ever have need.
