Biography

"God of those who came before, soul whose essence tangles with the planet's heart, you carry so much love for those who you will never get to meet."

A malformed deity, created during the First Age as the First Four, then Eight, clashed endlessly. Swept underneath the chaos of elemental energy run rampant, she fell into the magical ley lines that had cracked along the surface of the planet. Unnoticed and unable to think past the bombardment of pure magic, her first moments were spent being fearful and overwhelmed by these unfamiliar energies. Over the years, the fear and pain slowly became curiosity and control, and as the gods above continued to war, she slowly began to pull the energy into a shape for herself, something unique from the deities who had unknowingly trapped her in this magic pool for centuries. The different elements coiled within her, her very being a part of the original magical energy that created the First Four - a part of the celestial body itself. She curled up next to the beating heart of the planet, a fragile, fluttering plume, and felt as it grew weaker the longer the behemoths above pulled at the magic they were born of, and how she grew stronger with each shockwave of magic that seeped deep, deep below the surface.

She felt sad for the gentle plume that kept her company, though she did not fully know why. It grew small enough that she could swallow it, take the last dregs of magic left in this place that was born from a miracle, gain the strength to leave this place and travel beyond the elemental creatures above. But she was scared again. The unknown beckoned her, and yet the shell of light around her was all she had ever known. It was home. And so she curled tighter around the slowing heart, scared and sad, feeding the heart small amounts of magic from her form even when it was painful.

The rocks and metals would crack apart. The celestial body would crumble, and nothing would be left to war over. But the unnamed beings above did not heed the planet's sorrowful rumbles. She was the only one that could hear its pleads.

Time was not a concept she was familiar with, but when the magic being slung around above ceased she knew it had been an age. The heart lived, fluttering against her soul, warning her that something was not right, something had changed. An inky cold reached down into the ley lines where she lay, a shock so powerful that the careful control she kept of the energies that made up her being wavered and threatened to collapse. A change, an unknown. It was reaching down into the core of the planet, fighting off the beings above who were once again calling upon the magic gifted to them. It grazed her pool, creating an emptiness where it touched, as if the magic had never existed to begin with. For the first time, she solidified the magic of her being, forming a limb and reaching out to the ink that was now dripping into her pool. Was it like her? Something thrown down into the depths, forgotten, but oh so lonely and alive? Naivete and curiosity blurred together, her fear forgotten as she reached out to greet this new being. It brushed against her created limb, and she recoiled.

It was not like her.

It was everything she was not. Everything she never would be. An antithesis to the very fabric of creation that caused her existence.

She pushed away from it, throwing volatile elemental energy at the void as it formed sightless eyes and a gaping mouth. It drank from her pool, growing teeth and multiple tendril-like limbs, unfazed as she tried to control the magic around her without tearing her very being apart.

It meant to destroy her.

She had not known that her destruction was possible until today, her soul shaking as it tore from her very essence. The fear was now desperation as she realized she did not want to be snuffed out, wiped from this existence into the void of nothing. She backed up against the heart of the planet, and it whispered to her, anguished and rushed, that she must take what little it has to offer, or all will be reduced to what it was before. Back to nothing, without the possibility of being anything.

She swallowed the plume then, taking the core into herself and wrapping her soul around it, becoming one with the magic that beat against her essence. The inky darkness reared back as she pushed this newly acquired magic out as a scalding burst, channeling all her fear and desperation into the act. The void grasped at her, grappling with her essence as it attempted to eat this burst of energy, endlessly starving and greedy.

The battle went on for centuries, an unstoppable force and an immovable object.

Something shifted, then, above the unseen battle, something that caused the vast nothing to lose its grip, and she roared.

The outpour of magic unleashed in that moment burned away the inky creature, finally causing it to flee to the surface, leaving the core of the planet as the magic burst forth. The ley lines expanded and the atmosphere shimmered, the Shade finally being pushed from the shell of the planet she was born on.

She fell into a deep slumber not long after, her essence torn and dampened, unaware of what was happening above, of how the Deities finally vowed to protect their sacred planet once and for all.

She did not come out of the turmoil unscathed, as a shard of the Shade was now forever lodged in her heart, in the planet's heart, eating at her core endlessly as she fought to contain it.

In the future, she would awake again to guide the new civilizations in the caretaking of their magic. In the future, she would face the void once more, coming to claim the last drops of magic that remain. In the future, she would forget herself after making a sacrifice to try to contain the Shade for good, leaving nothing but her purified magical energy behind in the form of unassuming stones, protected from the endless black. Leaving nothing but a shell that mimics the shapes around itself.

But for now, she would sleep, ignoring the gnawing of the alien in her core, and she would dream of all that the magic she bore could become.

Not A Hatchling. And yet, very convincing. Always watching.
Unnamed. No dragon really knows its true name, not even sure if they themselves know.

Names given over the decades: Nergui "No Name", Khenbish "Nobody", and Medekhgui "I Don't Know". The true meaning of the names have eroded over time, and Medekhgui has stuck the longest.

Can appear as any breed as a hatchling. Usually appears in the shape of a Nocturne hatchling, since that is the shape she seems to prefer, though she usually appears as a hatchling of whatever dragon breed is most commonly around her. Place them in a group of Tundras, and they'll appear as a Tundra hatchling. Place them in a group of Gaolers, and they'll appear as a Gaoler hatchling. Any pronouns (she/he/they/it). They're beyond that of a mortal dragon, so they're sexless, and have no preference on gender (or preference on anything, really).

Tends to just watch what happens around them with an eerie, blank expression. Others are usually off-put by their ceaseless eye contact.

But what are they, truly? Why do they mimic hatchlings, even when it is clear once one looks closer that this is not their true form? And what are they really after...what is their purpose for watching dragonkind so closely? Well...all will be revealed in time.

Art notes:
- Coloured gems are vague representations of the elemental pendants she created in my lore. In the above art piece, they're symbolic - they can appear as anything in artistic depictions, or not be shown at all. If they are depicted, they usually reflect the Flight elemental colours in some way.

Fam: Wisp/Lux Spectre/Are Phantom/Kyorinrin/wicker dragon/Spirit of Light?

Unorganized lore dump: Partially NON-CANON, all very old. Some is still relevant, mostly them first parts, but most is no longer a part of her story.

- Related to the amulets that are relevant to the story. Maybe she created them, all those thousands of years ago when the world was made by the deities, and she was formed and remade. Maybe she originally made them to catch parts of the Shade, by making them concentrated elemental magic so that the Shade would be tempted to come and eat them, only to become trapped. Some amulets were fully overtaken (Ice amulet), while some were just partially overtaken (Nature amulet), and others were able to be purified? Still working on it.

'She's some sort of ancient deity that was unable to fully form as the other deities were forming and warring for land. So she was swept under the elemental chaos which caused her to be stuck in the form of the other deities' creations, unable to emote or communicate properly, and prevented from exercising her true godhood. She has some connection to The Shade'

'It most definitely is not a normal hatchling, since my appearance would frighten most. It always seems to show up when I'm working on experiments regarding the amulet, staring through me even after I demand it leave. It baffles me how it even got in...no one should know of this place. Is it even a hatchling? There have been many accounts of a hatchling of the exact same colours/eye type showing up around other places, but of different breeds. Did someone have a litter of twins? But how...? They're a mystery, although a group of very religious dragons have been treating them like a ghost or paranormal creature. Superstitions or not, there is something off about them...'
-- Writings of a Mirror Professor (Maverick) from Old Clan

Hmmmm she feels...a bit 'off' maybe. Living so long and in form of hatchling had negative impact on her mind making any attempts to communicate verbally really awkward(hence screaming and only being able to say your name?)Since she can't tell you her name the dragons of the clan gave her a nickname. Anyone in the clan with magical insight? Oracle maybe- is the only one who can say anything about her past. Ohhh I know! How about a malformed deity? Born of chaos that ensued while the First Four first started battling over the Sornieth? She wanders the world ever since- never able to grow and exercise her godhood. As for the past? Maybe Xandra could 'feel' the potential chaos nearby without realizing its source and fought it the only way he knew how- by reinforcing his ideas of order and went overboard with it. She could be a factor in his madness- not by malice but just by her nature. Maybe even Gigginox would have to find a way to avoid similar fate? --Voronwis, helping me brainstorm
