BRUMA reaper | she/her or they/them
ABOUT
‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾
▾ Hatched from an egg produced by an emperor and a ghost, Bruma was bound from birth to live a strange life. Her parents were surprised they had even conceived an egg at all, though unlike normal earth eggs with their stony hides, Bruma's had the brittle, shimmering translucence of mica.
▾ From the time they could fly, Bruma had little interest in remaining on the ground. She would only settle her paws on terra firma to eat and sleep, but did both of those things less and less as she matured. The rest of the clan worried, but Bruma's parents seemed to understand that their child wasn't normal, and would do what they needed to do to survive, even if it seemed strange. By the time she was an adult, Bruma lived among thick fog banks and high clouds, even sleeping on the wing. Her body grew as airy and insubstantial as her ghostly mother's, streaked with condensation from the clouds and shot through with shimmering stars. Soon, they were flying even higher than the Galehart's most talented aerial aces could keep up with. Where the air was impossibly thin, and gravity's tug was nothing more than a gentle anchor to the atmosphere's furthest edge, Bruma would rest. ▾ Looking down upon the vibrant world's horizons with one eye, and into the lifeless blackness of space with the other, Bruma realized her calling. For as long as time and aging had been affecting the bodies of dragons, as long as death itself, imperials had carried their fallen brethren far from the clan. This was passed from parent to child, whispered bedtime stories of gruesome emperors that would rise from the grave if the dead weren't given their proper last rites and disposed of. Bruma was raised by an emperor, and though her parent is uniquely sober and subdued for their kind, they are still a powerfully devastating force, and as unpredictable in mood as the weather. With new emperors being formed what felt like every day, it seemed nowhere was far enough from dragonkind for a dead imperial to decompose peacefully. Bruma didn't want anyone to suffer un-death the way the one who raised her does daily. ▾ So the half-life imperial shrouded in fog took up the dark mantle of a reaper. She travels far on her weightless wings, searching for the dark pennants and sorrowful cries of grieving clans, for the ruin of battlefields. Gently, she takes the dead under her wings and ferries them up, up, up through the skies and away from the planet's pull. This far up, Sorineth's elemental magics hold less sway, and Bruma believes her fallen kin can rest peacefully. With a prayer, she releases their bodies to the void, where they can hopefully drift undisturbed for eternity.
