Biography

Divination Master

Ieddrenth was a smaller hatchling at birth. Easily the smallest in his nest, that's for sure. He wasn't a fighter by any means. He much preferred solving conflicts with words rather than claws, though his words can cut through someone just as well as the sharpest swords.

During his youth, Ieddrenth was often excluded from normal hatchling activities. Nobody wanted to play hide-and-seek with him, because he'd forget that he was supposed to be looking for the others. They never wanted him to join in when they were roughhousing because he'd always end up crying from a tiny scratch.

Instead, he read. He could sit for hours on end as long as his current book entertained him. He wasn't interested in any other subjects. He hated maths and history. He adored anything that entailed reading, because he could pretend he was in an amazing new land, one that he could create. This love for reading soon spread to writing and drawing.

Due to his lack of battle skills, his clan ended up selling him to another, one that was well-known for training even the weakest warriors to be strong, and then sending them off to the Earthshaker. The Crystalline Shadows clan welcomed Ieddrenth with open claws.

It didn't take long for the young dragon to befriend some of the scholars in the clan. He enjoyed visiting the Keep, and he'd often find a small, comfortable cave inside to read. There was one book, though, that he came back to again and again. The Key to Divination, a book so old the writing was difficult to read. Nobody really knew where the book came from, and the ageing of the book had all but erased the author's name from the cover.

Through tedious work, cross-referencing other divination-related works, he managed to restore The Key to Divination, and subsequently write it down on fresh parchment. He refused the help of anyone else, insisting on doing it himself. He couldn't explain why this book meant so much to him, but it did. He could feel it tugging at his heart every time he was too far away. It called him.

Ieddrenth spent years restoring the book, and when he was finally finished, he was able to read it. He spent days, weeks even, analyzing each sentence. He learned everything it had to offer, but knew he needed more. He spent months finding, reading, and re-reading every divination-related book in the Keep, regardless of how little it was mentioned. Even when psychics were only mentioned in a single sentence of an entire novel. He wasn't satisfied, and he never let anyone borrow The Key to Divination in fear of it being damaged. Nobody was allowed to touch the original copy, which he kept safe in his hideaway inside the Keep.

He began using what he had learned. He'd read the stars with Cerlith, and he'd read the smoke in the fires scattered around camp. He made his own Tarot cards, which took well over a year of dedicated work. He read the palms of his clanmates, and every other type of divination he could practice. Some of his closer friends within the clans were his frequent customers. He'd answer even the most trivial questions.

His excitement for the art of divination never faded. He soon even went as far as to create a stall at the Trading Post, selling his services as a Tarot reader. He became known as Temperance, in honor of the 14th Major Arcana.
