LOVE IS NOT A VICTORY MARCH IT'S A COLD AND IT'S A BROKEN HALLELUJAH
x.x.synopsis | With golden horns and a silver tongue, there is no lack of appeal in Lyre's appearances. He is, outwardly, a gentleman of noble descent and an affluent upbringing. But those that know him best know that this is but a guise that has been perfected over the course of his years as a master manipulator and womanizer.
When the clan came under tyranny, Lyre had only his schemes to navigate the new system put in place. He played the role of the obedient soldier flawlessly while plotting mutiny with Herala and Sammanus behind closed doors. Setting Vitori up as the former tyrant's usurper was Lyre's magnum opus, so to speak, though he did earn a few scars in the process. Now he is seated among the sages, a council created to limit the Queen's power in order to prevent another tyrannical reign. For many of the sages, however, this system is merely a device to elevate themselves politically.
For Lyre, being a sage provides him with unlimited clan resources without being held to any sort of standard in his conduct, allowing him to slip back in to old ways. He keeps to his scriptorium, mostly, inscribing records for the clan (and some backdoor publications for the sages' benefit), but his spare time is devoted to a monotonous sea of lovers that fill the void left by an old flame.
SHE BROKE YOUR THRONE AND SHE CUT YOUR HAIR AND FROM YOUR LIPS SHE DREW THE HALLELUJAH
x.x.cour i | Abandoned by his father as a hatchling, Lyre lived out his youth with his mother moving from clan to clan down in the Floes. He never did understand her inability to stay in one place very long, but it had a very strong impact on the dragon he would soon become. Like her, he was flighty, but it was his emotions that lacked the commitment. Whatever it was--fear, detachment, arrogance--Lyre could never allow himself to become close to anyone.
He learned to play roles, to be every female's dream only to slip away in the night before emotions became too tangled. He burned through lovers like logs on a fire, leaving himself in the constant cold. There is no telling how many illegitimate children he has spawned, leaving them with the same tragic beginning that he had--growing up without a father.
Lyre did not see it that way, however. He was much to busy making promises he didn't intend to keep and toying with the emotions of the next tender hearted dame. It wasn't until an imperial woman by the name of Morgane became a target of his fleeting affections that Lyre would yearn to settle. She was a fire dragon raised in the floes, her crimson skin and ember eyes more beautiful than any of his previous conquests. More than that, she was a Queen, the head of her very own clan. Something about her reminded Lyre of Sensitivity, his mother.
The way she laughed so sweetly innocent and bat her lashes when she looked his way. Lyre turned on the charm for her, sweet nothings and fake promises pouring from his lips. But unlike those before her, Morgane was not so easily swayed. She outright refused him. In turn, Lyre became all the more determined to win her over.
That was when he first entered the Requiem, a small clan at the time, but influential none the less. He desired nothing more than to be Morgane's paramour, but at the same time there was something soothing about having a stable home after all his years on the move. His clanmates were all kindred spirits, Saphiren always lazing about in the Library making fun of his affections for Morgane and Arlen lending advice that was almost...fatherly.
Lyre began to become attached to them, all of them. And for Morgane, a spark of love replaced his desires. He knew she would never return his affections, but his burned for her regardless even after she found a mate and bore children. Lyre never sought another lover during that time, perhaps due to some small hope that Morgane might one day return his love for her. Unfortunately, that hope would soon perish with the last breath of the Queen.
x.x.cour ii | The beastclans, rallied by the chaos that destroyed their homes when the pillar was shattered, turned against dragonkind. A stranger, taken in by the Requiem, knew all too well how lethal these Beastclans had become when his own clan had been destroyed by them. He bred hate and fear in to the clan, so that when the Southern Icefields were at last under attack by the Beastclans he could usurp the throne and sieze control. Morgane and her mate would perish by his hands and every
clansmen, from the kindred old Arlen to the merry musician Miede, would come under his spell and be transformed in to vicious soldiers. Lyre was no different. Disparaged, he obeyed the new King's commands and fell back in to the distant and affectionless manipulator he had been before he had found the Requiem. This was punishment for lending his heart out, he thought. Lyre suddenly remembered why he had cut off his emotions to begin with, and through the arduous and volatile years of Dominic's reign he would become cold and heartless once again. His bed would see a new string of lovers that, in some way, resembled Morgane.
But his hatred was not misplaced--it was Dominic who took her away. So while he played the role of the obedient soldier before the King, he plied plots behind his back. Saphiren had been imprisoned and Arlen was now out of his reach. Meide was not someone he felt he could trust and so Herala, a wickedly two-faced physician, helped him to put a plan in to motion that would lead to the King's downfall.
They laid out the groundwork for their schemes, awaiting an opportunity to get close to the King. The dragon was tactically smart and his back was often well-guarded by loyalists. It wasn't until Vitori was placed in Lyre's ranks that a clear opportunity showed itself. She was young, but an incredibly lethal soldier, and the God King favored her greatly. Lyre could see the tyrant's growing affections for the crystalline woman. He had once had those eyes himself. So he closed the distance between himself and Vitori, sewing seeds of distrust in her towards the King. She did have a heart, unlike most of the Requiem's new soldiers, so carefully he pointed out the King's many injustices and manipulated her in to thinking only she possessed the strength to dispatch the tyrant.
Uncertain, Lyre would watch her closely--he could very well be talking her in to her own grave, if they underestimated the King. Indeed they had, because when at last Vitori was given the chance to take him down she was nearly overcome and killed. Lyre intervened. A talented mage, he descended in to the battle and lent the crystalline warrior her assistance. Together, they were enough to outmatch the King and deposed of him in a swift battle.
