The shifting stars beneath her skin let Maren know her baby was breathing. Every breath led to a stronger one, every movement led to a more purposeful one.
Even among the mangled brush of the Tangled Woods, her hatchling had struggled her way to life. She would be just as strong as her father.
Nightingale was at a loss for words and actions. The egg was so small, but before him was the strongest Guardian hatchling he had ever laid eyes upon. Such a fierce determination and a fire to live already in one only a few minutes old. Tears welled up in his eyes and it was all he could do to keep from sobbing at such a wonderful sight. His hatchling lived and he would make sure she continued to live longer than he did."
