Lord Emon's favoured offspring. It's known that a curse follows the clan, one set upon them by a vengeful demon Emperor of Light, but Duet was lucky. Her feathers are bright and she is healthy, even her eyes two-toned, and she is the only one of her father's first clutch to live.
Her father and mother said not to name the cursed ones. That it would bring doom upon her and the clan. That the most noble thing to do would be to leave them to the fate the Plaguebringer had in store: if truly they were worthy, they would survive and thrive, hopefully far away from their clan.
But every clutch, every visitation of the curse, she slips off in the night when her mate is awake at guard, to where the cursed hatchlings from the whole clan have been left. She carries them all to the outskirts of whatever settlement or lair is near, leaves a message with names and no explanation written nearby, and hastens back to her clan.
It isn't cheating the curse too much to at least leave them with other dragons. Is it?
