Lore:
Guardian never felt like he belonged as a Skydancer, so he searched for a way to turn into a guardian - one of the strongest of dragons. He even requested that others call him "Guardian" instead of his given name until he found a way to change. His parents couldn't understand why he would want to change his beautiful, lithe skydancer body to the hulking, ungraceful body of a guardian. Yet he heard stories of other dragons also feeling uncomfortable in their own skins and changing form to be as they feel they should. Some of these dragons had been cast out by their families for betraying their own species, but at least Guardian's parents still loved him even if they didn't always understand him.
Guardian followed the tales of change until he found the pool of transmutations. It looked absolutely normal, if a little too calm and lifeless. This pool was meant to change any dragon who swam in it into their true form - if they were already as they should be then they would not change. What if he didn't change? How would he know if this was the pool or just a joke?
Slowly, he waded into the cool waters. It felt normal as well. Just as he started to think that perhaps these stories were just stories, the water started to sting a bit. Leaches maybe? That would be such a pain to remove them all. The stinging increased to be very uncomfortable and before he could move to get out of the water it intensified further. These were not leaches! This must be the magic pool. He had just enough time to be overjoyed that at least something was happening before he felt his wings snap. The pain was unbearable and he was terrified of drowning. This could be a trap for idiotic dragons too gullible to suspect they were being told what they wanted to hear! He tried to scream and swim but the water was alive and holding him down. It was everywhere and searing his skin. The water seemed to flow into him, right through his skin, into his muscles and bone - all the while boiling him. Was this acid? Some water even forced its way in through his mouth and nostrils even though he was holding his breath. It burned and bubbled through his organs. "I never said goodbye to my parents" was all he could think before he passed out.
When Guardian came to he was first shocked to still be alive, then shocked that he was outside of the pool. But the biggest shock was building slowly. He couldn't exactly put his claw on it, but something was very off about the world around him. He tried to sense what it was by wiggling his antennae but found he was unable to do so. Also, the pool looked about twice the size it had when he came here. His wings! He remembered they had been snapped! He had heard and felt them break. He stretched them gingerly and felt no pain. They also felt different though.
He looked at them and finally the slow building shock awoke and crashed down on him like the water of the pool. Those were not skydancer wings. There were no feathers. No fur. They were delicate and leathery like a bat's.
Those.. were fae wings.
Guardian Is trying to make peace with his not exactly planned change. First of all, it seems the water of the pool never really left him. Every now and then he can feel it coursing through his veins, unpleasantly hot. Supposedly this is a gift that no other dragon has been given before when swimming in the pool. These waters meant he can now shape shift, but he has no control over his power. What's more he doesn't shape shift into other dragon species, but rather familiars, animals and sometimes just a very irritated puddle of glowing water. His spirit familiar started following him after the day of the change and calling him SkyeFae (really a bit on the nose for his change but he had wanted to be a guardian called Guardian so he can't really complain). It hasn't done much except judge his failed shape-shifting attempts. It doesn't allow him to touch its orb, though he feels like that might help him. So of course he's never going to get to lay a claw on it.
