The consciousness has seen the future, and it is terrified.
Idris "graced" it with one of her visions of another timeline. One where the planet's surface and its inhabitants were almost entirely Hive. It didn't seem to like that very much, mainly because the consciousnesses no longer had any autotomy of either movement or motivation. Ironic how something whose charges have no free will doesn't want to lose its own.
The entire hive went silent for months.
When they started appearing again, the drones had seemingly gone mad. Stealing young from established hives, trailing behind exalt processions in hopes of snatching away the forgotten. They stopped caring whether the arrivals were in peak condition or what sort of coloration they had. Strange, pure, defective, hijacker; none of it matters to this hive anymore.
I think I know what the consciousness is trying to do. It's decided to knock out potential candidates for a unified hive before they can get started. It's building an army.
This thing is either going to destroy the biggest hives in Sornieth or die trying.
