Kasumi
The Hopeless Romantic
"It wasn't her life that was the problem."

Born into a rich family, Kasumi was a spoiled hatching, often causing trouble to those around her but never being scolded in fear of her parents' rage. Her father was a warrior who often battled in the Colosseum to afford the lavish jewels her mother wore. Young Kasumi often found herself getting bored of her day to day life, so she would sneak out mid-day to explore her surroundings. It was one day that she happened to come across a young Imperial in the market place. In fact, it was his beautiful, shiny gold wings that glimmered like rays of sunlight itself that had caught her attention in the first place. The next thing she noticed was his shiny red scales and that unique blue capsule gene. He was absolutely stunning; way more stunning than any treasure her father had ever brought back for her.

"Excuse me," the Imp said to the shop keeper with furrow brows, his glasses barely hanging from his face, "Do you happen to have any... discounted battle items?" The shop keeper shot him a glare which made the Imp quickly shut his mouth and gulp. "Er... well, I mean... what's the bare minimum I need to begin training?"

"How should I know?" the shop keeper snapped, "Are you buying something or not?"

The Imperial let out a defeated sigh and hung his head slightly. Kasumi felt a pit in her gut seeing the poor fellow like that. Almost on instinct, she approached the shop keeper in a calm manner. "Excuse me, sir, may I purchase six of these potions and two might stones, please?"

The shop keeper glanced up, then imminently shifted his tone. "Oh! You're Shinryuu's girl, right? That's gonna be 3,500t!"

Kasumi reached into her purse and pulled out the required payment. She then turned and handed them to the startled Imp. "Here you are. This should help you out a bit, but you'll need- you're an arcane imperial, right?- arcane might stones later." she explained.

"Oh! Uh- Than- Thank you!" he chirped, gathering the supplies, "I'm not sure how I can repay you but-"

Kasumi chuckled. "There's no need. My family is quite wealthy, so a few thousand treasure is pocket change to me." She put her claw to her face innocently. "Though, I would like to know your name."

"My name's Virgo," he replied with a goofy smile, "And yours?"

She laughed again. "I'm Kasumi. Clearly, you must be new around here if you don't recognize me or my father's name."

Virgo tucked his head behind his wing sheepishly. "Yeah, you got me. I'm actually from the Observatory." He turned his head forwards with a rather proud smile. "My great-great grandmother was a courier in Starfall Isles! I was there researching about her...," his voice trailed off, "...But... not anymore, of course. I decided to move on an become a warrior instead!" He beamed at her, widening his stance quite proudly.

"What a sudden move, from researcher to warrior," Kasumi commented.

"Well, truth be told, it was rather boring being cooped up in that building."

Kasumi nodded knowingly. Being cooped up was the reason why she sneaked out to begin with. Still, here was this dragon...Virgo... so brave to go out on his own and start a new life on a whim. Her friendly smile began to wither away into a sad one. "I wish I could be as brave as you... On the topic of being truthful, the treasure and gems don't seem to glimmer as they use to." She let out a small sigh. "But father says that I need to stay at home and mother tells me that living the life we lead is all I should ever want... but..." she paused, putting her hand over her mouth. "I'm sorry, maybe I said too much. I'm sure you don't want to hear the woes of a stranger."

Virgo shook his head energetically, "No, no. I actually feel quite grateful that you feel comfortable enough to tell me this!" He hesitated for a moment, but stood his ground. "Why don't you come with me, then? A one dragon team won't make it far... and you really seem to know the ins and outs of the Colosseum."

She was a bit taken back. "W-What?!"

Virgo's wings twitched in anxiety. "Ah! I'm sorry, if that was too forward."

"N-no... I just.." she paused. "I'm sorry, I should probably head back about now. My parents don't know I'm out."

Virgo frowned, but gave a slight nod. "Y-yeah.. I should probably begin training anyways... Uh, it was very nice to meet you, miss Kasumi." With that, he took his things and left. Kasumi felt a pang of sadness as she watched him go. He was an interesting one and from the sound of it, she might not see him any time soon. Letting out a sigh, she turned and made her way back home.

That night, Kasumi found herself only thinking about that handsome Virgo and how his eyes sparkled as he talked. The next day she was thinking of how his face was twisted in sadness and pity as she talked about her life... No, it wasn't her life that was the problem. It was her and her own wants and needs. Any dragon would kill to be in the position she was, but she didn't feel as though she belonged there. She always had an interest in her father's work and pestered others simply due to her boredom. Still, every time she thought of leaving, the fear and the guilt felt as though it was going to spew from her mouth.

The next day, the red spiral decided to go out into the marketplace again. Though the chances were slim, she had secretly hoped to see Virgo again so they could chat about something more happy. Maybe discuss who his great-great grandmother was, or maybe talk about how the Starfall Isles is like. As the day went on, her hopes dwindled bit by bit until the sun began to glow a hot red. Dusk was upon her, so she decided to head home when she heard her name being called. Looking back, she saw that handsome imp rush to her from a distance. "Virgo?"

"M-Miss.. K..kasumi!" he called, finally in front of her. He lowered his head and tried to catch his breath. After a moment, he stood tall and flashed a smile. "I'm glad you're here! I was worried I wouldn't be able to see you again!"

Kasumi averted her gaze in embarrassment. "I'm... glad to see you again as well." She glanced back at him; he was still giving her the biggest smile. "I figured you'd be out training still."

"Ah, well, I actually came to recruit some teammates," he confessed. "I actually found a healer who was willing to join me."

"Oh?" she muttered.

"And... I'm... well," he shuffled a bit before giving a confident stance. "I'm asking again for you to join me!"

Kasumi could feel all her emotions rise up into her chest. "I want to," she said quickly, "But-"

"If you want to, there wouldn't be any butts!" Virgo stated, his tone still friendly.

"I don't know," she mumbled, "How do I just leave everything I know? How can I just start something new out of the blue like you?"

Virgo paused for a moment, though to Kasumi, it seemed like eons. "You just do." He held out his hand to her. "I'm leaving to live in the Viridian Labyrinth. Come with me."

Kasumi tried to process everything. It seemed like her whole world was turning upside down... and all over one Imperial who shimmer was more dazzling than gold itself. Should she go? Should she stay? What would she tell her parents? Before any of those questions could gain answers, she found her hand within his. And with that, his smile had melted everything else way.

She never did tell her parents where she went, but she often sent letters to let them know she was well and had found a mate. Kasumi decided her parents didn't need to fret about her fighting, so she didn't bother to tell them that as well. Though she is the weaker of her squad, she still does her part to bring back treasure for her family. None of that matters, however, as long as Virgo is by her side.
