Alastaire, the Eclipse
If you wish to see strange and deadly things, I have the power to show them to you.
THEME

Alastaire is the dark horse of Solyphe's branch in the House, the celebrity witch's best kept secret. Of the two apprentices Solyphe has ever trained, Alastaire is the older and much, much more powerful one. Inquisitive witches speculate she might even rival Solyphe herself in magical might, but the biggest question is why Alastaire is still in the House at all. Solyphe's branch, boasting itself as a shining, fiery beacon of righteous power...housing a necromancer?

Though it was known to no one, Solyphe always knew she would have a problem in Alastaire. She rescued both Alastaire and Kolaire as hatchlings, raising them as her own and dutifully tutoring them in the ways of witchcraft as they grew. Though only a month apart in age, it became quickly apparent there was a major difference in power between the two young dragonesses. Alastaire quickly picked up any spell shown to her, begrudgingly took her potions classes...and disappeared for hours at a time when left to her own devices. Solyphe tried her best to make each young female feel loved and encouraged, and with Alastaire she kept careful watch as long as she could, steering her away from the shadows that always seemed to catch her eye.

It could only last so long. When fire spells and love potions could no longer hold her interest, Alastaire explored more sinister things. A curse to see a dragon trip. A hex to make a plant die. A ritual to bring a beast back to life...

Solyphe holds on to Alastaire by keeping her in the House as she feels the young female slipping out of her clutches. She fears what her apprentice will do when no one is there to hold her back any longer. The history of the House is well-recorded, and there has never been a good ending for those that delve into the dark.

For Alastaire, there's a fascination in the balance between life and death. What does a soul lose when it's dragged back from the other side? More importantly, what can be gained?

Magic

Affinity: Fire/Plague
Specialty: Necromancy. Alastaire can call the flame of the soul back to the living world of Sornieth. By placing the flame inside a body she's crafted, she can take control of their will.
Weakness: Holy magic or the rites performed by priests that can convince the soul to leave it's body and move on to the next world once more.
Healing: Alastaire practices sacrificial healing, effective but grisly. She can heal nearly fatal wounds, provided the equivalent sacrifice is available...
Blessings: Though she doesn't like to perform blessings, Alastaire has been trained well and is nonetheless capable of them. Her preferred blessings are on weapons, and revolve around glory, battle, and war.
Potion-making: Her weakest skill. She can create long-lasting preserves for parts and ingredients, but not much more.
Enchanting: Her strongest skill, as the body-creation she uses for her necromancy is technically enchanting. She crafts an artificial body out of fire, blood, and bone and then enchants it to enable it to move.

No one knows why Alastaire ever turned to the dark arts. No fellow House witch had ever heard of her having a dead lover or family member that she might have grieved so deeply she thought necromancy was the only answer. It's hard for them to accept the fact that there might just be something twisted about the powerful guardian they call sister.
