When injustice arises, someone must stand to fight against it. It is an honorable, even sacred path to take, delivering justice to the far corners of Sornieth, daring to be righteous where others fear to tread. Sometimes, even the authorities cannot be depended on to right the world's wrongs, but still, the world cannot be allowed to turn on by. The work of a vigilante is never done, but it is invaluable work indeed.
Escapade takes great pride in her efforts to do right by the world as a result. It's hard to imagine a higher honor than looking out for those who cannot defend themselves, protecting and avenging those unable to do so on their own. She is a defender of the little dragon, of the weak and helpless, and even of those just down on their luck. She is justice and kindness and tenacity, and she will use all of her energy until her dying day to make sure others receive the due diligence she offers.
That said, there are whispers in the clan that her ego is perhaps a little over-inflated. She doesn't exactly travel the world, swooping in at the last second to save dragons from certain doom. She doesn't take contracts to kill dragons who deserve the revenge coming their way. She doesn't settle disputes over hotly contested land, bringing clans from the brink of war to cooperative peace. Her justice is, as some dragons put it behind her back, just small justice. And to some, it's just meddling.
But it's not meddling, and by the deities, Escapade only wishes she had someone like the dragon she's become when she was young. She needed someone who would settle the long, drawn-out fights between her and her siblings. She needed someone who could keep her safe from the snarling claws of elder dragons, convinced she was in their way. She needed someone to tell her they cared, and that they would make sure she was safe and unharmed and welcome and loved.
Escapade is exactly who she once needed. She referees the fights between clutchmates, tends to scrapes and demands apologies, smooths ruffled feathers, soothes frayed nerves. She makes sure toys are given back, that respect goes both ways. She watches neighbors with sharp eyes until they give back that which they "borrowed," and she stands by hatchlings as they face their parents, and the independence beyond.
It doesn't leave her with much energy some days, but her mate, Rythin, provides plenty of that. After a long day of righting wrongs, she takes comfort in his constant motion and brilliant mind. If anything, he is proof that the world is not all bad, and that vigilantes like her deserve their own simple, private rewards.
