As a young dragon, Hellwatcher was always looked down upon and treated like scum for his abnormality. As he matured, he learned how to deal with this, however, he would still feel as though he needed someone who cared. One day a mysterious figure stepped out of the shadows and smiled at him. That was the first time anyone had smiled upon Hellwatcher. The figure then revealed himself. He was the devil. In a strange yet weirdly charming voice, he spoke: "Hellwatcher. I will make you a deal. If you become the guardian of hell's gate, I will make sure no dragon, man or any being will look down upon you again."

Hellwatcher considered this deal. With time, thought and a small ounce of persuasion, he accepted this deal and became the guardian of hell's gate. From then nobody ever mistreated him again.
