Opportunity was found in a basket, with his eyes not yet open and with bits of shell still clinging to his down. These circumstances, though sad, weren't necessarily unusual; the strange part was where the basket was left. Classically, a parent wanting to give their child a better life would leave them at a hospital, a temple, or even a relatively well-off merchant who might be tempted by the prospect of a future apprentice, not outside the cheapest room of a hostel next to a monastery grounds. Perhaps they meant to give him to the monks but had the wrong address. Gilhuly took it upon himself to raise the screaming little bundle left on his doorstep, and did a fairly good job of it too. Little Opportunity grew up in the ranks of the Southern Sorneith Messenger Corps, raised by a rotating cast of doctors and couriers. Once he was old enough to fly long distances, he accompanied Gilhuly on all his assignments, traveling up and down and seeing all the South had to offer. He stayed in the service as an adult, taking on speed runs instead of a regular route. Apart from the occasional cough, he doesn't seem to suffer any health complications from being abandoned while still egg-wet. |

Opportunity's adopted father still grumbles about whoever it was who decided to drop a baby Wildclaw on his doorstep, but the words don't have a sting to them anymore. Gilhuly taught Opportunity all there was to know about couriering, including musical skills. Some others acted a little confused hearing this, but Gilhuly insists they're essential. |

Despite being a few years older than him, Opportunity and Friend are very good, well, friends. Most SSMC dragons as young as they are still in training; they're the only two full agents their age. |

When he was still very young, Opportunity begged Gilhuly for money to have his palm read. The Mirror doing the reading seemed more amused by the hatchling than anything else, but told him "You have stars in your eyes. Take care they don't blind you, but don't block them out either. You are a citizen of the Universe." |
