A B O U T

There is a tale among the residents of the Greatwyrm's Breach, that they tend to tell to their hatchlings as a bedtime story. They say that nowadays a creature haunts these lands and searches for hatchlings who got lost or separated from their parents. He only appears during nights when he hears the crying voice of the young ones. "At first you will get surrounded with fire-coloured fireflies who will lead your way with their light. If you follow them you will get a chance to meet with their master.

He appears in the shape of a Pearlcatcher, his skin looks like the starry night sky and he has deep black eyes with a small white light in them. He talks to the kids nicely, comforts them and offers a warm place under his wings. When you get calm he asks you a question. "Do you want me to help you with finding your way?"

If you say yes, then he will accompany you until you get home. If you say no then he will stay next to you until the sun sets then he disappears. Though you have to be careful with your answer. If you were a good kid then he will guide you home safely. But if you were bad then he won't bring you back... instead, he will take away your soul! So if you were to happen to meet with this creature then make sure to give him the right answers."

When this tale reached the Nevermore clan the members figured out immediately that the tale's mysterious protagonist is probably their clanmates, Aries. His description matches his look and he is always surrounded by fireflies. He also likes to be with hatchlings and they also noticed that he occasionally goes out alone during the night. The clan doesn't know other things about him since he never talks about himself. They only know that he really likes his little companions.

He spends every day playing with his fireflies and the hatchlings, they dance or sing together and he also teaches the kids about the world and other common things. Since he is so good with children the clan asked him to be a hatchling caretaker. They can't really believe that he could harm any child or take away their souls. "That part was probably added by the adults to keep away their kids from wandering." They say.

But Nyx started to worry about those rumours lately. She can't imagine Aries being a soul-eater who hunts for children. But there are too many similarities... Later Nyx noticed that Aries had more and more fireflies as time went on. Their number increased whenever he went out at night. "He probably goes out to collect them." - she thought. Then one day she could hear a conversation between Aries and a hatchling. "You have lesser fireflies around you, Aries. What happened with them? Where did they go? Were they eaten by a frog or something?" - the little one asked. Aries smiled and gave a hug to the curious hatchling. "No, I would never let anyone eat my little friends. They played enough with us so it was time to bring them home."

When Nyx heard those words she understood everything. "So that means... the fireflies are actually... !"

N O T E S

» When he was young he was always alone since the other hatchlings avoided him because of his strange eyes. No matter how nice he was with them, the kids never wanted to play with him. One night he saw a shooting star falling across the sky and he made a wish. He asked for friends who will never leave his side. That's how he got his unique ability.

» Since he knows well how awful is to be alone he decided that he won't leave any hatchling alone if they need company or help. He feels that it's his mission to find every lost or abandoned child and look after them as their guardian.

» He eventually brings back the children to their own home when he finds their locations. Even though he always gets sad whenever he loses one of his friends, he knows that it's better to the hatchlings to be with their own family. When they reach adulthood they will forget everything about their little adventure.

» Though Aries acts all nice and friendly he too has a dark side. As the tale says, if he finds a bad hatchling they will never be able to return home. He won't take away their soul but he forces them to stay with him forever. They must learn their lesson. And it's not like they will get any harm from it. They can play with Aries and the other kids as much as they want. And Aries won't be alone ever again in his lifetime.

From Snowsquall Tundra in Southern Icefield
The only pockets of what can pass for wildlife now huddle themselves into the brush of the tundra, which blankets the heart of the icefield. Dense evergreen forests skirt the mountain ridges, and many dragon clans huddle in wicker caves and huts nestled deep in the trees for the better part of each year.
