Growing up in the Scarred Wasteland, many would expect Colette to have a background in being a cutthroat mercenary, or some history of consistent, unordered violence. However, she was actually hatched and raised in Clan Adlucinatio, a bastion of democracy and fairness in the Plaguelands. Because of this, Colette was impressed upon from a young age the importance of order and community, and took it to heart.

Despite her comparatively cushy upbringing, the Scarred Wasteland is a challenging place to live at the best of times, and her childhood was not unmarked by conflict. Colette often had to help her clan defend against wandering groups of mercenaries and bandits, and grew to become intensely protective of her two younger brothers. This fostered a strong defensive urge in her, one she elected to draw upon by becoming a guard.

But eventually, the open road called the Begin family, and when her youngest brother decided to leave the clan to devote his life to the Flamecaller, Colette felt both hurt and lost, only compounded by the other leaving not long after. She lingered in Adlucinatio for a little while, but with the departure of those she cared for most, she found her bitterness too overwhelming to remain. She took to the road, and through her travels discovered Rara Avis; too tired to keep going, she elected to remain.

Living in Rara Avis has given Colette a new lease on life. With new friends and a place untainted by the leaving of her brothers, her protective streak has gotten to bloom again in a clan that really needs her, and she wasn't expecting as much when she arrived. Even with her love for the place, Colette is still more often than not a quiet observer, and doesn't have many close friends.

Colette takes her job very seriously, though it seems to most that she spends a lot of time lying around. In reality, she's a font of knowledge, from the petty to the deep, and keeps secrets like no one else. Colette will trade in meaningless gossip until the Shade returns, but when push comes to shove, she knows what needs to be kept private. In her mind, knowledge is power— and if she knows the most, she can take the best care of her new home.

◈ Colette has a secret passion for entomology, and often raises monarch butterflies alongside her familiar, Charlotte the Goliath Mountain beetle. She often checks out books regarding insect life from the clan library.
◈ After her brothers left, Colette briefly fell out of contact with them, due partially to distance and partially a feeling of abandonment. Once she settled in Rara Avis, Colette reached out to them again, and is trying to reconnect.
◈ Colette is in her late twenties.
