"Light magic surging into a vessel not made to contain so much and so quickly. Black silk over blank eyes, a circle of earth where nothing grows, the flame of a lone candle sputtering out. Her influence is subtler these days, but deadlier than ever. Even the most desperate plants on the forest floor shy away from the brilliance of her unseeing gaze. Nine sparrows ring the dusty floor,
They cry for mother and nothing more.
Denied the chance to heft the lance,
To take a different, stronger stance,
They bind their eyes and so they cry,
Blind to the chances beyond their sight.

Drain it away, the warmth and the pain,
Only the skeleton remains,
Withstand the torrents of this time,

Surra is a mage hailing from the farthest reaches of the Lightweaver’s domain. At a young age, she demonstrated prowess with light magic and became something of a noble within the local area, but sooner than later this was not fated to last. As she continued to perform her magic, the light put such a strain on her body that she was eventually rendered blind. Many considered this a small sacrifice, but Surra was heartbroken by the idea that she could not be a mage if she couldn’t even see what she was casting.

She eventually fled into the depths of the jungle, deciding she was done bowing to the will of others. Plants died from overexposure to light. The entire area was drenched in light so powerful that nothing could grow. This was a little slice of death in which she lived, until eventually the tyrannical empire made its way into her home.

Willing to bargain, she made a deal. She gave herself to Tuhkat’s empire in exchange for a new home amongst the favored and was able to rest easy. However, her grief and anger at losing her sight never left her. IN some corners of the Labryinth, darkness may reign and those foolish enough disappear into it. And yet, the light is also just as vexing.

No one has seen Surra since then. Parts of the Labyrinth are drowned in light, full of dead vegetation. It’s wise to avoid these areas, for it is not known whether the light still lurks nearby. Her influence does not seem to bother anyone, and yet it still fills the lair with a sense of danger. Do not stray far from the path, and stay clear of the blinding light.
