Castellano, the doomed party boy. Castellano, born to a dignified family with a little more wealth than most, has always been something of a bohemian. He brought his cultured along ways with him when he emigrated to the Wyrmwound. He picked a problem up along the way-- Castel made a deal wtih a fragment of Shade. He will carry it, and his garden party days will never end, not even when rot threatens the patio. In exchange, he will feed it secrets.
It turns out it wants bigger secrets than he is comfortable catching. Its quest brings him into proximity with kinds of evil and the unnatural and the just plain rotten. He fears for his life, because of the characters now within it, and every omen that comes his way.

“I don’t know what it wants. It keeps telling me to seek deeper. I don’t know what that means. I don’t think anyone here knows anything that can sate it. Not Isaac, not the scientists, not the battle mages, not even the monsters. I can’t tell if it’s looking for chinks in the armor or strengths it can use. All I know is nothing we have is enough.”
