Krien

Something had always been off about Krien.
At first, he seemed much like his siblings: bright pink, with dark accents gracing his wings. For the first hour, he rolled around, comfortably nestled in with his hatchmates and eyes well and shut for longer than theirs. One by one, he could feel the warmth of his siblings leave his side as their eyes opened, mother and father (or what he could assume) cooing over them. Why can I not see?
Marshmallow and Pinkcloud both fretted as their oldest and final hatchling rolled and whined in the nest, eyes still shut tight. Was he blind permanently? He would never live alone, something that they dreaded more than anything else. A guardian unable to live on their own or find their own charge would surely be shunned from any clan, and would die without constant assistance.
And in that moment, Krien's eyes opened and saw many things.
One, his parents, standing worriedly over the nest.
Two, his siblings running around.
Three, the other dragons of the clan, also gathered around.
One gasped, and Krien blinked, seeing in almost every direction possible, finally able to see what was around him. His eyes were one block of color, with no pupil and many ridges, completely faceted as an insect's eyes.
From that point on, everyone treated him differently. Even his siblings were wary of him, their eyes all normal, pupilled and more like their parents. He grew more and more separated from the clan, even his father would not look him in the eyes. So he left, to find somewhere that would take him in for what and who he was: Krien, the Watcher.
Many days had passed before the Guardian found a small ledge on the Crystalspine Reaches, a place to rest before he had to move again. However, he heard the scrapes of claws against the pink rock that seemed to shift. Krien didn't have to look up to see another Guardian, much larger than he was, with crystals not unlike the Reaches' growing from her body. "Hello little one. You seem to be far from home." Krien simply nodded, afraid to look up for fear that the much larger dragon would hurt him. "You may come inside, if you'd like. We have others your age. You do not have to stay, but none of us are against small ones becoming one of us."
Krien worriedly twitched a claw on the rock, and stood slowly. "I...I'd like to stay..." Something about the large female made him feel at home, unsure of whether it was because she was also very different, or if it was because of the chirps of other babies he could hear inside reminding him of his siblings. "Thank you..."
Mariena nodded, sweeping a wing around the hatchling. "You're home now."
