Biography

Spent a very long portion of his life trapped as an inanimate emerald statue.

The air was unusually humid. That was the first thing he noticed, coming home. That bitter, dry sting of the wind that made his face burn was replaced by a cold, wet malaise. And the further his party flew, the clearer it became why.

The Wandering Contagion was a distant monster when he was young. Tales of the walls of flesh just beyond the Tangled Woods' thorn barrier felt like nothing more than stories. Stories the hunting parties told to keep little hatchlings like himself from wandering too far into the woods.
And yet, here it was.
Moors that he spent hours exploring in his youth had been engulfed in meaty growths. Noxious pustules visible from afar covered what was once the hatchling grove. The training field had become a rotten husk of its former self.

Despite all this, the Covenant's thorn dome remained relatively the same as he recalled it being all those years ago. It stood the test of time and rose defiantly from the rotting woods as a testament to the formidable magics that lie within.
As they breached the threshold barrier spells and data runes washed over his hide, and a wave of nostalgia hit him. The feeling- perhaps alien or uncomfortable to those who never knew such things -of being drowned in those ancient magics filled him with a sense of safety and familiarity. Home.
He looked to his traveling companions. Nina's flight faltered briefly as she was shocked by the force of the spell wall, but with a few sporadic wingbeats she fell back into formation. Sanddollar on the other hand... seemed entirely unfazed. Whether she was deaf to the presence of the casts or simply stoic, he couldn't quite tell. Regardless, he was impressed. She continued onward without looking back.

The entrance was before them now. They were diving in. Anticipation that once ate him away slowly now bloomed in his chest and bled from his quickly-beating heart. He shut his eyes tight and waited for the feeling of soft soil against his paws.
And then... it happened.
He landed.
He was finally... finally home.

Delicate grasses tickled his ventral scales. The air had become cool and crisp. A faint breeze tousled his mane. He opened his eyes, and felt a weight lift from his back. It was all so... so...

A loud, boisterous voice startled him from his daze. A guardian was approaching Sanddollar now, one he didn't recognize from his time in the Covenant. Her introductions fell on unconscious ears. He was too busy staring at the entrance to the lair behind her. A gaping hole bored into what was apparently once a small cave in the crest of the hill. Now it was a portal into a labyrinth cutting deep into the yawning depths of Sorineth, a dragon-sized rabbit's warren filled with wonders and mysteries. And somewhere in those depths reposed what remained of his family.

His family...

Behind the guardian he couldn't recognize were two faces he remembered well. Opal and Oak-Of-Swamp. These were faces he was raised under, trained by, molded against. Opal and her endless enthusiasm, her prismatic scales and her soft heart... Oak and his hardened exterior, his careful step, his gravelly voice... They were like uncle and aunt to him.

Sanddollar's words broke through the haze of his mind.
"Yes. I must speak with SilkStar at first moment's notice-"

His heart practically leaped out of his chest. Father!

"-privately."

And in the same breath, it thudded back into the depths of his rib cage. Of course, SilkStar was always busy. That was how he was most comfortable, not to say he never spent time with his own hatchlings, but...
His thoughts paused as he noticed the jovial guardian spare a subtle chuckle at his expense.

Shame coursed through his blood, hot and frigid at once. He needed to pull himself together, to stop acting like a hatchling. His father had duties to the Covenant. He could wait for just a few hours, couldn't he?

"You co-could wait h-here-"

He drew in a sharp inhale. No, it wasn't like that, it-

"-here just a moment-"

Stop.

"...wait..."

No, he wouldn't-

"Wait."

He wouldn't!

Wait.

"Hey."

He jolted back to consciousness- although he managed to refrain from jumping this time. It was Nina who spoke to him, he quickly realized.

She looked at him through the corner of her eye, brow furrowed with concern. "Are you okay? You... really don't have to go in if you don't want to."

"O- oh, no no, I'm- I'm fine I just..."

"Nervous?" Nina looked up with her whole head now, which bore an uncertain smile. He nodded. She looked back down to the ground. "Me too."
