Biography
"That's a mighty large pearl you got there."
The hatchling stopped scribbling on the paper with his crayons, instead looking up at the older Pearlcatcher. Tox stared down at the pale-colored hatchling with mild interest. Permababies, even ones that had been around for a while, usually never had a pearl as big as the one Milo was carrying. He could barely even walk with it! It was much more suited in size to an older dragon, one that had experienced many things and had been shaped by their experiences. If Tox stared hard enough, he was sure he could see figures dancing in the reflective depths of the shell. But if he looked for too long, he would feel nauseous, and his vision would begin to blur. It was best not to stare into a Pearlcatcher's pearl for too long, unless it was your own. Milo beamed up at Tox.
"My papa gave it to me! It used to be his pearl, but he said he no longer needed it."
Tox nodded, now substantially more intrigued. If this wasn't Milo's pearl, then what happened to it? Who was Milo's "papa"? The clan had found him wandering around alone, and he said that he had been alone for a long time when they rescued him. Tox decided that he would have to do a bit of investigating if he wanted to find any answers. He knew neither Tana -- the dragon who ran the nursery and protected the hatchlings -- nor Opal -- his mate -- would approve of his plan, but he had done more questionable things in order to satisfy his curiosity.
