Biography

Greed

Fullmetal Alchemist Fandragon

Greed, an approximately 200 year old homunculus. Presents himself as cocky, egotistical, self-centred, and seemingly insatiably avaricious. He is motivated by the desire to possess everything in the world, as suggested by his namesake.

Background
Greed was created by fusing a philosopher stone made of human souls with the body of a living human, done by his creator for the purpose of ridding his own being of the sin of avarice to become perfect. The souls contained within the stone fuel Greed's functional immortality; he will live forever, unaging and healthy, so long as his philosopher stone still contains souls. He can regenerate the damage from any injuries, even fatal ones, but if killed too many times, he will eventually be destroyed permanently. He stayed with his creator and his 5 sibling homunculi (also created to remove and embody their creator's sins) for some time, but true to his nature, he knew he would never be able to possess all that he desired if he stayed with them, and ran away.

After his escape from his creator, about a century old at this point, Greed wandered around the country quietly doing odd work but not being entirely innocent. His lack of aging meant that he couldn't stay in one place with the same people for too long without raising questions. He ended up settling in a medium sized southern town, running a bar also functioning as a location to carry out minor illegal practices. The primary reason Greed allowed the latter was to stay in the loop about the underground business of the country so he could be among the first to know about any leads on immortality, which would certainly not be open knowledge to the general populace. People frequenting the bar rarely stick around for a long enough period of time to begin to question his age. Here, he has made some friends whom he views himself the boss of; four chimeras he "adopted" off the streets. All outcasts, they can accept each other as they really are.

Personality
Despite being created from a cardinal sin and a physical manifestation of human suffering, Greed is not and does not view himself as evil. Though he is very materialistic and greedy, he is the only homunculus to not harbour any sociopathic feelings towards humans. He does not see himself as inherently greater than humans by his status as a homunculus in itself, though he occasionally offers the secret to his form of immortality as a bargaining chip, and he still does by all means have a large ego. Greed is generally fairly courteous (though he uses slang and frequently swears), gives praise where it's due, does not harm or kill without reason, and strongly dislikes fighting women. Additionally, whenever it's brought up, he argues that greed is not inherently evil (secretly taking some offence to this belief); he does not believe desire in itself is bad, it can very well function as motivation to do good. However, he is greedy and proud of it. He does not hold back from his wants; if he finds he fancies something, he will quite impulsively do what he can to have it. He rarely if ever sees a problem with this behavior, more in favour of praising himself for having the fire and fervor to get what he wants while others sit passively. He does view himself as superior to his siblings, in this sense, who hold themselves back from their passions, feel guilt for wanting and consuming in excess, or worst of all, Envy, who just sits quietly and bitterly hating others for having what they desire. The two bear resentment for each other.

He is the most human of all homunculi, being the closest to love. Though he claims to desire everything in the world, and demands all the finest things in life, he is really quite soft, good-natured, and even selfless at times, which goes unrecognized even by himself. He is bothered by injustice and cruelty in the world. While he cites only his inability to achieve all that he wanted if he stayed with his creator as his reason for running away, another factor is that he was bothered by the single minded psychopathic nature of his father, the abuse towards himself and his siblings, and the evil acts they were commanded to carry out for him. Greed absolutely refuses to tell lies in the present, disgusted with himself for past actions.

In his interactions with others, he typically just comes off as full of himself but fair, egotistical yet kind, avaricious but honest, and chaotic and imposing but benevolent. He is very chaotic-good; self destructive at times, but strictly only towards himself. One of the quickest and only ways to infuriate him is to harm those close to him. He claims that it's because of his greedy nature again, stating no one gets away with destroying what belongs to him, but even he is oblivious to how deeply he simply cares for his friends. While enjoying his immortal status, he's saddened every time he loses a loved one, and is afraid of it happening repeatedly. The main thing he wants in the present is a way to help his loved ones become immortal too. Specifically to his creator and siblings (and the occasional troublemaking patron) he is sharp-tongued, defiant, insulting, and especially egotistical. Though he urged some of them to leave with him a century ago, none did, but their creator increased his abusive habits towards them as if punishing them for Greed's insubordination. They feel varying degrees of spite towards him as a result, especially Envy, who was seen as the next most likely to leave, and therefore treated especially harshly. Their creator feels no love for Greed (debatably, it was cast out with him), and would not hesitate to kill him to repossess his being and try again for a less individualistic creation.

Appearance
Greed demands nothing less than the finest in life and doesn't hesitate to show his expensive tastes; he wears a fur vest, a few more black armbands than could ever be considered necessary, leather boots polished daily, fine pants, a leather belt, styles his hair immaculately, grooms diligently, and sports the finest shades he can find. He stands out a little too much in the lower class part of town his bar is located in, but absolutely doesn't care. His black shirt under his vest is really part of his Ultimate Shield; his unique ability as a homunculus to rearrange the carbon in his outer layers of his skin to the hardest configuration. It can cover his entire body at will, and in this form it is nearly impossible to damage him, only possible by alchemically changing the configuration back to a weaker form without him noticing, then striking the area. Since homunculi lack their own human soul, they cannot do alchemy, so he is especially protected against them. He also cannot both regenerate damage from injuries and have the area hardened at the same time, though both processes are quite fast. Greed prefers to not have his shield completely up all the time because he dislikes how it obscures his handsome features. His other shared homunculus features include his intense red tinted mauve eyes, black hair, red "nodes" over his body where the philosopher stone's energy distributes, and a blood red marking of an ouroboros on the back of his left hand.

Chimeras
His four chimera companions, respectively Dolcetto, Roa, and Martel. The fourth, gecko Bido, prefers to stay closer to him. All were vagabonds, outcasts, or wandering mercenaries that he took in some years before. Greed is looking for a form of immortality for the sake of his friends, whom he fears he will otherwise greatly outlive with his functional immortality. He chooses to act as though this pursuit of immortality is for himself, a more perfect form in which he would be entirely unable to be killed, however his friends see through it and just play along for his ego.
