Atarsamain was born amongst the nobility in a well-off clan of the Plateau, and lived a sheltered life. It wasn’t until his marriage was arranged that he found himself questioning the path he had been placed on; his intended was short-tempered and cruel, and Atarsamain found little support when he voiced his protestations. It was Madame Xiulan and the Blossom Parade who helped him escape. He slipped away in the dead of night, and travelled with their caravan until they reached Serenity, where he chose to settle down.

For most of his life, it was assumed that Atarsamain wouldn’t do anything. He is well-educated, and can carry a lovely tune, but passion wasn’t counted for much. With Inara’s help, however, he is beginning to pursue his interest in the stars.

Caprichor was a hitchhiker herself, stubbornly following the Blossom Parade on their travels. She took an immediate liking to Atarsamain, and settled in with him. He is immensely grateful for the company.

Though they make for a strange duo, Atarsamain and Rodhani are close friends. She makes him feel safe, and he enjoys the quick wit hidden beneath her gruff exterior. When he doubts his capabilities as an astronomer, she is always the first to reassure him.
