Biography
Calixte
By night, herself,
By day, a beast.
Beware the sun,
Lest you become her feast.

"My grandpa says that, 'those who disrespect the sun shall be consumed by her warrior'." "You know that's just an old legend, Marku, right?" The young dragon scoffed at the fear on his friends face. The sun was rising and they had been on their way back to the caves that sheltered them from the sun's beast, when the subject of that very thing came up. "To keep us inside while they go out and hunt all the juiciest things for themselves." "It's not just a story!" The youngest piped up, voice trembling. He crouched low to the earth, claws nervously sinking into the dirt. "My grandpa was attacked by it! He told me what happened. I-I want to go back before it gets me, too." "Please." The first dragon rolled his eyes. "Why do you think we're forced inside during the day, while the adults go out? All the tastiest prey is out and about during the day. They're just greedy." "Kita, please let's go! I don't want to be here anymore." The young dragon gasped when a twig crunched nearby. "I hear it!!" "Relax! It's just a rabbit or something. I say we hunt it and get our own prey, for once." Kita crouched low to the ground and stalked forward, tail swishing silently behind him. Marku watched helplessly, holding his breath, as his friend disappeared into the bushes. There was a few moments of silence and then, a hideous scream. The sounds of a terrible struggle followed, clumps of dirt flew into the air, twigs snapped, and an unearthly growl rent the air. Silence followed and then something big shifted in the woods. Marku caught a glimpse of...something, and he wanted to run but his legs wouldn't work. His heart beat overtime and his breaths came in gasps as a large...beast emerged. He wasn't sure whether to call it dragon or creature, because it seemed like it was both at the same time. "My, my. Seems like you are out past your bedtime." The dragon-beast purred, her voice light and almost soothing. Marku knew better and he trembled, pressing himself tighter against the earth, ears pinned back in fright. "K-Kita?" He whimpered to the bushes, but there was no answer. "Your dragon friend insulted me, and in turn insulted the sun. My mistress doesn't like being insulted." The dragon-beast slowly circled the dragon, her steps light and silent, her keen eyes locked onto his. "He had to be punished." "Are you going to kill me?" "I was punished once, too, by the sun herself. She made me her warrior, she made me what I am today. At night, I'm just like you. A dragon, free to live my life. But at night..." She growled a laugh. "At night I am powerful and I am feared. A force to be reckoned with, the sun's avenger! What was meant to be a punishment, turned out to be my blessing." "A-are you going...are you...am I going to die?" "You did well to listen to your grandpa," the dragon-beast started, revealing she had been listening to their conversation, "and since you fear me, as you should, I'll let you go. This time. If I see you out here in the day again, the sun won't issue your death but I will. Run home, little dragonling." Marku was still paralyzed but one nudge on his haunch from her clawed paw, and he took off like a bolt. "Tell them Calixte sent you! Tell them Calixte will be waiting for them!" She called after him, howling toward the sun in her victory. |
