Biography
The Search for the Banquet
Not many know what caused the ginormous guardian known as Gorge to take on his rather notable charge, that of preserving the culinary knowledge of the world. Even he isn’t sure where his interest in food began, eating a great deal at home between training and general education, and sampling various dishes during his Search. And of course, he didn’t mind the additional girth and blubber that resulted from it, feeling it was a testament to his efforts at guarding his charge.
Once he learned a recipe, he meticulously recreated the process of preparing it, right down to the specific ingredients grown in the specific conditions in a specific region of Sornieth. And of course, nothing went to waste, even if the meal was subpar, he ate it or was willing to give it to someone else. And he repeatedly practiced the dish, making sure he mastered the method of preparing it. Then came the experimentation, as he broadened what the food could be by using different ingredients. It was a profession that allowed him to earn the treasure for his sizable food bill as he practiced and experimented. Many found the guardian odd, though few could deny his skill and found him well worth his fee.
As for how he guarded this vast and varied store of knowledge, he had a few methods. He had a good memory, the some of the dishes he knew seeming to be permanently known to him. And as payment and assistance for his efforts he received several tools for recording his recipes, such as an Arcane codex, and an experimental Lightning encoder. Both went a long way to preserving the large number of recipes. However, as a final measure, Gorge also sought a clan with a capable chef to whom he could teach his vast array of knowledge. That would ensure that the knowledge of the dishes would exist even if his efforts should fail.
A peaceful Sornieth would go a great deal towards that effort. So when he heard of the Myst clan, he eagerly offered his services. Food was a way of bringing everyone together after all. And the clan was more than willing to provide the guardian will all the resources he could want. He settled quite comfortably into the position as the head chef, preparing a banquet for the clan as often as he could so as to keep up with his pursuit of knowledge. Needless to say, settling down did result in him coming to expand larger and larger, but he loved his charge, and relishes in every new recipe that he comes across or creates.
And don’t be fooled. He still remembers his ample combat training as well. And all the weight is effective at brushing off blows and crushing bone.
