A native of the Southern Icefield, Emil had a sense of great responsibility instilled in them since their hatching. The eldest of their clutch, there seemed no greater cause to serve and protect than their family.

So, when their siblings journeyed to serve the Icewarden, and their parents followed soon after, Emil found themself lost.

They became withdrawn, distant, caught in a daydream where dragons would just... tell them what to do. And, Emil hoped, when they listened, those dragons would all praise them for that beautiful compliance.

But that didn't happen.

Instead, in their solitude, Emil just kept focusing on all the little hobbies they'd garnered before their family left, embroidering scraps of cloth they found, making little gathering pouches for any hatchling that asked for one, occasionally sewing patches onto freezing dragons' clothing. It took time (almost too long, they felt), but soon they realized the fun they were having. Even without some grand prison or guards to serve, Emil could actually have fun just helping those around them; by sewing. So they saved up treasure, bought a portable sewing machine, and set up a wagon with fabrics they collected, bought, and received as donations from generous friends. With each new stitch and finished endeavor Emil's skill, happiness, and business grew, until that longing for some unattainable, grand purpose subsided entirely.
