Dragon Log

Originally from Lightning Flight, he spent some time in a Plague Clan before he decided to try his luck elsewhere. At first, he was not quite accepted by the other Coatls of the lair, who were not sure what to do with this brash young male of several Flights. After an Umberhorn Qiriq befriended him however, and especially after he caught the interest of several of the female Coatls as a possible father for their first nest, attitudes began to change. Now he is as much a part of the Clan as any other dragon, and looking forward to seeing which female his wooing techniques will win. Now if only he could find a name for himself....

11-19-14: His Umberhorn Qiriq friend has Awakened! This is especially wonderful for him, as the Qiriq was his first friend in the Clan, and holds a very special place in his heart....

1-6-15: After a long, long time, this dragon has finally come to a decision on his name. He was wavering, as he wasn't sure he should call himself after a stone that is sometime blue, even if it is his favorite focus stone.... but after seeing a description of the stone as one sometimes mistaken for a ruby, he realized that the name fit after all.

1-12-15: Shortly after finding his name, Spinel found a new companion, as well. The Carmine Serthis seems quite happy to join his family....

4-12-15: The Carmine Serthis has Awakened! It should be interesting to see what she does now....

7-30-15: During the Lightning Festival, Spinel attracted the attention of a Lightning Lancer. Much to his pleasure, it decided to follow him home…. Now all he has to do is figure out what to call him!

11-4-15: The quest for a name for his companion continues…but now, perhaps, the Lightning Lancer will be able to help Spinel in his enterprise, as he has Awakened to his full potential at last. Of course, he will have to stop poking things with his spear first….

7-23-17: Spinel was admiring his new vest (courtesy of a sparkbomb dropped near him during the first day of the Thundercrack Carnivale) when he heard an excited buzzing. Looking up, the older Coatl saw a bright new Spirit of Lightning heading right for the Sparkmage--or whatever that excitable pink Spiral was calling herself these days. Curious, he followed to see how the bonding would work out....

The pink Spiral heard a soft buzzing, and looked around in interest. As soon as she caught sight of what was coming towards her, her eyes lit up. "Ohhhh....a new meal!" With an excited squeal, she dove for the tasty-looking insect--only to have something very large, and very, very angry interpose itself, no himself, in between her and her intended target.
"You idiot!" Spinel snapped in fury, "That's the new Lightning familiar!"
She blinked, pausing in mid-chew on the wing she had managed to snatch before Spinel had interfered. "A familiar? Not lunch?"
"NO!!!"
"Oh." She blinked again, and carefully spat out the poor wing. "Um, oops?"
Spinel glared at her, snatched up the wing, and turned to the trembling Lightning Bug. "I'm sorry," he said softly, gently pressing the wing back into place, and concentrating on summoning healing magic, "She's a Spiral, and, er, well, she's a bit, ah, excitable and often acts without thinking, but I'm sure she won't eat you now if you want to give her another chan--" He broke off, caught by those terrified blue eyes...
Spinel blinked as the Spirit of Lightning straightened, flicking it's now healed wing, and flew towards his shoulder. Had he just bonded with the Sparkmage's promised familiar? The one they had all agreed she could have, because it had been so long since she had had any new familiar at all? Oh NO....

Oh dear…well, at least Spinel won't eat him, right? And perhaps the poor Spiral will be more compatible for the next Lightning familiar...maybe Joxar will be able to help, next month?

10-21-17: Well, it is now official: Spinel's "Lightning Bug”--the Spirit of Lightning named Glash--has Awakened fully as the Coatl's bonded familiar. Fortunately, the Sparkmage is not as upset about this as she might be, as Joxar did, indeed, have a nice, non-insect Lighting familiar for the Spiral during the Fire Festival. So disaster appears to have been diverted for the moment, and Spinel can celebrate the Awakening of his newest friend without guilt. Though he does wish that the bug would stop flashing his wings so often. The resultant flashes of light are giving him quite a headache. Perhaps Glash will settle down after a few days? He can only hope....

7-26-18: While looking for his two truant helpers, Spinel stumbled upon a nice little surprise, and decided to indulge himself this Thundercrack Carnivale.... ( )

9-5-18: Spinel enjoyed himself immensely with the Metamorhper, but his true magical prowess has always been with Focus Stones, and Fire (Spirit) Magic, rather than the Lightning Magic of his birth. He received a rather poignant reminder of that today, as a Conflagrant Halo suddenly appeared around his head while he was in the midst of experimenting with a new Healing technique....

6-17-19: As Spinel has become more and more engrossed in his Healing abilities, his magic has been subtly shifting. He is, and will always be, a dragon who uses Focus Stones rather than raw magical energy, and his affinity to Fire Magic has not faded. It seems, however, that he has now developed a an affinity to Nature Magic as well, as evidence by the Gladegift Halo that appeared around his head in the wake of the strong magical surge that recently swept through the Clan. Perhaps this phenomenon was aided by his recent acquisition of some new Focus Stones, which he now wears, within easy reach, on a Teardrop Pastel Spinel Wing Loop? Whatever the reason, it seems that his aura has been altered for good, as the illusionary flaming flowers are showing no sign of fading any time soon…

2-21-21: A surprising development has occurred in the Clan: The Clan’s “Festival Dragon” Ice Dragon has unexpectedly asked to move into the Healerie! Apparently, the reason he was hanging around the Nursery for so long was that he was fascinated with the Healing Cave, and didn’t know how to approach Spinel about moving in. Has Spinel finally found his assistant? Or perhaps a Guardian for his cave? He very much hopes so….

6-3-21: It’s both! The young Guardian has moved permanently into the Healerie, as Spinel’s official apprentice, and as official Guardian of the Healerie itself. His magic is extraordinary, sending out healing pulses throughout the day, and “recharging” every morning at Dawn. Spinel is looking forward to training his new student on exactly how to harness that peculiar power…
