______ The copse of trees was silent. Too silent. The only sounds were the light rustles of leaves, and the gentle pound of waves on the nearby beach. At the end of the light brown sand sat an egg. It was still for a moment, then shuddered, as if it were cold. Scratching sounds filled the air, and then a loud CRACK! The egg splintered, although it didn't fully break. Hairline fractures decorated its surface. another push, and the egg almost exploded, tiny shards of it flying everywhere. In the wreckage was a small Fae dragon. Her turquoise scales were almost the exact color as the sea that was at her back, and her wings were the color of crimson flames.

______ The dragonet made a tiny squeaking sound, then listened for an answer. After several minutes with no other sounds, she tried again. There was still no one. She stumbled to her feet, wanting to explore. A tiny glitter caught her eye, and she saw a small pearl ring by the wreckage of the egg. She picked it up. Although too big for her tiny claw, she found a place on her tail where it stayed securely. She thunked down in the sand, until she heard something coming from the ocean.
The little dragon stood again and ambled unsteadily towards the cool waters. As waves gently brushed her talons, she heard the voice.
Little one, it said. Fear not, you will leave this place soon. Serve the oceans. Serve your clan. She waited another moment. The voice of the Tidelord did not speak again. Although she was young, she still understood that she couldn't stay at the beach forever. She leaped to her talons, flicked her tail, and set off for her destiny.
