Biography
Scholar | Gem Enthusiast | Cursed
The first thing he noticed was the lesions.
He awoke one morning with small, opalescent patches on his hide. Looking back, he found them beautiful. He marvelled at how sections of his scales caught the light, at how the smooth patches were all but impenetrable.
He felt closer than ever to the gems to which he devoted his life.
Day by day, the patches grew. The colours swelled like a sunset, first pale pinks blossoming into rich purple hues.
“I’ve truly been blessed…”
A week later, the first patch grew in his mouth. Food lost its taste. He suddenly found it harder and harder to swallow. The awe started turning into something darker, something more like fear.
The patches grew still, cementing his wings so he was unable to fly. Soon after, the patches nearing his joints made even his studies a difficult task.
The panic set in the morning he woke up blind.
The infection - for that’s what he now referred to it as - had spread to his eyes. There was no pain, only a powerful pulsing behind his eyes. It felt almost…alive. Soon all he could see was the swirling layers of pink.
He forgot his purpose. His studies fell away. He forgot his passions. His gems littered the lair. He forgot his name.
In fact, he hardly even noticed as the first crystals erupted from his spine. More crystal than dragon, he felt nothing.
He was transformed.
