Biography
Status: Unliving, Exile
Role: Dictator (formerly)
One of the first born in Malachite's clan, Wheatley displayed strong potential. He had a coldness about him, focusing only on growing his own strength and status. Wheatley is powerful, cunning, and manipulative, devising underhanded schemes and utilizing guerilla warfare.
He first mastered the element of Lightning, despite not being a lightning dragon, and then harnessed the powers of Earth. Wheatley was the first dragon in Malachite's clan to be able to use more than one element-- a rare and valuable gift.
Believing Wheatley to be the promise of prosperity of his clan, Malachite and the others treated Wheatley with the highest respect and honor, and erected a golden statue of his likeness in the Earth territory the clan occupied at the time. He was then encouraged by elders and mages, who willingly passed down their secrets of Lightning and Earth to Wheatley. However, as time went by, it was apparent that his bloodlust knew no boundary. This allowed Wheatley to develop an inflated sense of self importance-- he began to view himself as the only dragon fit to lead his clan, his flight, all of Sornieth. He was destined for something greater. His tactics became more violent and ruthless, often uneccesarily. As Wheatley's lust for power grew and fearing his lack of restraint, Malachite banished Wheatley.
Wheatley retains his arrogance that contributed to his exile and hatched a plot to overthrow his former leader and take command of his clan. Wheatley is willing to exploit anything for the sake of his goals and destroy everything that stands in his way. He is also a skilled orator, able to strike doubt in the resolute and courageous minds and use it to his advantage. With this skill, he is very experienced at using his enemy's faults against them.
When Wheatley did finally challenge Malachite for leader, he knew in his heart he could never defeat him-- fairly. Malachite was honorable and courageous, and it was these virtues that Wheatley's strategy depended on, for even his dual elemental magic wouldn't be enough to defeat the powerful leader. Prior to this momentous battle, Wheatley had cursed his claws with powerful magic.
It stormed when they fought. The more intense the battle became, the harder the rain fell. In a blinding flash of lightning at the climax of the battle, Malachite's throat was slashed with the magic claws, and the great guardian's body fell at the feet of a victorious Wheatley.
The clan divided following Malachite's defeat. Those loyal to Wheatley, and those too afraid to oppose him, followed him into the Scarred Wasteland. There, he weeded out the week, polished the strong, and bent the will of others to become one of the fiercest, most feared clans in Plague. As his influence and power grew, Wheatley decided he wanted a queen to help expand his empire.
His queen would be powerful and beautiful. She would strike fear and wonder into the hearts of their enemies. More than that, Wheatley desired an heir to pass his legacy to. Wheatley repeatedly courted Pearl, a beautiful guardian adorned with gold markings and jewelry, but she refused. Furious at her rejection, Wheatley set out on a mission to find the perfect heir to his empire.
Wheatley kidnapped a large infant guardian with striking radioactive markings. This guardian was taken to the brim of the Wyrmwound and forced into its brine by the dictator, who desired his heir to be more fierce and powerful than simply an average guardian. The heir survived the ordeal, and in a fit of rage and confusion, obliterated an entire pirate fleet in the Sea of a Thousand Currants. Disgusted and appalled by what he had become, the young guardian refused to return to Wheatley and now wanders the Scarred Wasteland in hiding.
The loss of his heir put Wheatley back to square one. Instead of kidnapping who looked strong and fierce, he decided to do a bit more research before selecting his next heir. It couldn't be just any dragon. Wheatley encountered a sorceress, Babayaga, who agreed to help him on his search. Wheatley foolishly trusted the powerful snapper, enchanted by her strength. Babayaga led him to a hidden clan of Shade dragons. These dragons lacked elemental magic and instead practiced life and death magic, the magic of the Shade. Deciding this was exactly the kind of advantage his growing clan needed to succeed, he adopted Forsythia, an Imperial.
The unexpected return of Malachite and his army of the undead took him by surprise. He and his clan were unprepared for the tactics of the undead, and were miserably defeated. In the heat of battle, Forsythia took the opportunity to slay Wheatley as he was overwhelmed by Malachite's forces.
