"What... is it you study, exactly?"

The question surprised her at first, and surprised turned into anger, though she wouldn't show it at the time. It was best to save her frustrations to take out her frustrations on the forces which she studied, not the simpletons who questioned her, even if they had no place to and she was right to be infuriated in her mind.

"Why is it you ask?"

"Well, I... I mean, it's just..." they trailed, staring, doubt written clearly in their expression. Calypso's frustration grew.

"Just what, now?"

"It's just... you're gone, out there in the field, for weeks, even months at a time, only to come back, bruised and beaten, even near death. It makes me wonder what you really do out there. Whethe you're truly a scientist like you say, or just some madman lying to us-"

Calypso was in their face in seconds, cutting them off before they could further enrage her, and through gritted teeth, she snarled, "my work is not for the likes of you to wonder about. My work is above you, it is above all of you. You would never understand the horrors that exist beyond these wall. Of the creatures, those who control this entire timeline, who could make the world forget of our existences as a whole in the blink of an eye if they so pleased. I am the only one keeping us all from that cruel fate."

She stepped away, anger still burning bright in her eyes, then turned, and left to continue her work before she could be questioned once more.
