"Pull back!" Fell roared, instant response to Aurora's frantic sign, but it was too late.

A hoarse cry ripped from Aurora's throat. She charged.

"Aurora!" Fell plunged after her. "There are too many!" Aurora paid him no heed. Helpless, he followed her. Only his strangled cry when a blade slipped past his defenses brought Aurora up short with a grieving, furious hiss.

She rounded on the attackers that surrounded them, clearing a path. Together, they fled.

About
Altair is Aurora's go-to dragon when a job requires subterfuge.

Originally a dancer, Altair joined the army when his clan was wiped out. He volunteered for training as an assassin and was good enough at it that he was sent on highly dangerous missions. After a few years of this he began to have issues with insubordination. No manner of punishment or shuffling from one battalion to the next made things better. He was finally sent to Aurora, who has a reputation for managing difficult personalities.

Maddox is a battle mage who mostly fights from a distance, using shadow magic to confuse and disorient the enemy. He is best utilized in night battles and on heavily overcast days, as this helps him hide and provides him with the most ambient ammunition.

Lover
Maddox and Jeremiah met when Jeremiah was still working as an assassin. They worked on opposing sides for a time, until Jeremiah retired and Maddox left his former employer. They met again when Aurora made the inn a regular stopping point and have been on and off again lovers since then. They argue constantly.

Friends
Maddox is constantly having snide arguments with Altair and deliberately riling Fell. He gets along best with Matthew, who (correctly) says his close combat skills are worthless and uses it as an excuse to have destructive, bloody brawls with Maddox under the guise of training.

He's one of the best in the battalion at reading Aurora, and as such is her go-to interpreter when one is needed. His behavior is marginally more respectful when interacting with her, though he still likes to poke at her just to see the long-suffering looks it earns him.
