Rose

Rose (though that's not her real name) came from far away, a distant land where dragons travel the stars - and where they would do anything to find the secrets to the universe. Very, very rarely, these dragons are born with maps on their skin, galaxies in their markings, and the greedy try their best to manipulate the so-called 'Starscales' into relinquishing themselves to be used for information. Once, Rose believed her parents would do anything for her... and eventually she realised they would do anything for money. She was stolen from her home in the dead of night by pirates searching for mythical treasure. Under their care, she suffered; the only reason she survived at all was because of her map. So she ran. She covered herself in whatever fabric she could find and escaped in a shuttle, crash landing on a strange planet at the foot of a temple. When she woke, she was confronted by a red dragon covered in strange markings and skulls and feathers - but he was kind to her, and took her in, and helped her stay to heal her injuries. He could not understand her name, and called her Rose, after her colour and shape. Gradually, they came to understand each other, and she began to help him with his duties at the temple - and Rose and Vallaslin began to fall in love. When the pirates returned for her, she covered up again, and went to leave, but he woke when she opened the door to go.

And he went with her, and they are still journeying across the world, running away, but in company.
